What is the most important detail for a bride on her wedding day? Is it the flowers or the invitations? Nope. Is it the photographer and the memories? Nope. Is the the vows? Nope. Is it the man that's waiting for her at the end of the aisle? Still nope. Without a doubt, the most important detail for a bride on her wedding day is her gown and how beautiful she looks in it.
Who's kidding who … that's all people talk about the day after the wedding. It's all about the gown!
Girls dream about their wedding day from the time they are little. We're brought up watching princesses in beautiful gowns dancing the night away with their Prince Charming. And of course, they always live happily ever after. OK … We all know that part is questionable. Happily ever afters do not always happen. But the one thing that stays true is the princess in the beautiful gown.
So how's your search for the perfect gown going? Buying a wedding gown can be a stressful experience, but it can also be a lot of fun! Take your time. Do not rush it. Just relax and enjoy it! Here are some tips to help you in your search for your perfect wedding gown …
- Look at pictures – Read all the bride magazines you can get your hands on. There are enough of them out there! Start narrowing down the styles that you like. Cut out the pictures of the ones that appeal to you. You can even make a folder or a collage. You can also cut apart the dresses – for example, if you like the top part of one dress, but the bottom of another. Get clear on what you like, and what you do not like.
- What are the circumstances of your wedding. When is the big day? Is it in the middle of the hot summer, or the cold winter? Your dress should reflect that. Is it an indoor wedding or outdoor? Is it formal or informal? Be sure you are dressed appropriately for the day.
- Budget. This is very important. It is so easy to blow the budget on your gown, so set a realistic budget and stick to it! You can get a nice wedding gown for a few hundred dollars, and it goes up from there to many thousands of dollars! Decide ahead of time what you are comfortable spending, and do not spend any more than that amount.
- Start trying on . This is the fun part! Make appointments at the local bridal stores and start trying on some dresses. Try on LOTS of dresses! Be sure to share as much information with the bridal consultant as possible. Then she can best help you find the perfect gown for you. Show her all your cut out pictures, and be sure to give her as much detail as you can about the 'where and when' of your special day.
As you start trying on the gowns, note that bridal stores do not carry all sizes. They keep on hand only a sampling of sizes, and then your dress will be custom made to fit you.
