Getting Fit for Your Wedding

[ad_1]

On your wedding you want everything to be perfect. You want it to run smoothly and you want to look your best, so you will spend inordinate amounts of money on a dress, a makeup artist, a hair dresser and hire in a professional photographer. That's the easy part, because all you have to do is complete the transaction, decide where you are going to purchase the goods, hand over your cash and you're done. Looking good is not just in the dress, makeup and hair, getting in good physical condition will make you look much better than any of the products you can buy.

It can transform your entire appearance. It can be financially free but does require a big price tag ….. Commitment! You can not achieve sustainable results 3 weeks before your wedding; you need to start at least 6 weeks prior and ideally 12 weeks prior. Of course the sooner you start the better the results you will get. You will appear in thousands of pictures on that day and numerous DVD's. Both will be immortalised and be shown to your kids and grandkids, so we're sure you are feeling the pressure. Let us help!

If you want to look your best then follow these simple rules:

  1. Give yourself as much time as you can . Weight loss is more sustainable when it is gradual and progressive. Do not try to rush it or it will be coming back on before the honeymoon is over! Your natural urge is to do everything you can. You will spend loads of money on home workout DVD's, go for runs in your new trainers, download an app for your phone that tells you how many calories you've burnt etc. However your enthusiasm will burn out well before you reach your goals. You will feel de-motivated and disillusioned with exercise. The worst thing that can happen is you blame yourself and get depressed This usually results in you turning to food and using lines like "I'm too busy to exercise" "work is really busy just now" "need to go and see the. …………. "really all you are doing is avoiding the one thing that can help and if you had just taken your time and built it up from a manageable foundation you could of really enjoyed the process . When it's tough but manageable exercise can really be great fun.
  2. Do not rely on a gym ; if you can not take a membership to a gym because there is not one local to you or you can not justify the cost with your wedding so close then do not panic! In fact you are probably better off without it. Joining a gym is sometimes the worst thing you can do, as by joining most people feel that they are no longer responsible for their goals and that the fitness instructors will look after them. In reality the fitness instructors will probably be chatting up the receptionist so you need to take control of your own goals. You can exercise anywhere at any time, during the commercial break of your favorite TV show try some tricep dips on your couch, sit ups or and abdominal plank. When you are waiting on the kettle to boil try some press-ups on the kitchen work top. You can train in the house, in your garden, your local park even at work! By looking at your everyday activities and looking for ways you can turn them into exercises you are making exercise fit in with your life rather than stopping your life to accomodate exercise.
  3. Intensity is the key. You do not have to train 5 days per week, infact keeping point 1 in mind you probably should not. Keep your workouts to a manageable frequency and duration, 3 times per week for 1 hr to 1 h hr is perfect, The trick is to push yourself during these sessions, give it all you have, nothing worth getting was easily gained. By upping the intensity of your sessions you will gain the result you are looking for without giving up your life. Everyone's limit is specific to them, so listen to your body. Do not train through dizziness, faintness, nausea or acute pain in a joint or muscle and absolutely do not try to conform to any standard guides. If it starts with 'for someone your age, height & weight you should be ….' throw it in the bin. The only person that knows you is you.
  4. Diet and nutrition. Do not follow a fad diet. Do not cut any food group (eg, carbs) out entirely. Eat a healthy balanced diet with loads of vegetables and watch your portion control. It is much better to eat six small meals per day than three big meals. Eat at regular times so your body knows when meal times are and can prepare itself. Do not eat too late, if you need to snack late at night then try a cereal that is high in fiber. Keep an eye on your calorie intake, if the packet does not have the calories on it then take a look on the internet. As a guide aim for 1500 to 2000 calories but remember you are an individual so do what feels right.

The other reason to exercise before your wedding.

Picking your wedding favors, choosing bridesmaids or best man, setting your table plan, waiting for the RSVP's to come in not to mention the day itself, your wedding experience is one of the most stressfull situations you can find yourself in. Exercise not only reduces the effects of stress but it helps you cope better with future stressfull situations, it does this in two ways:

  1. Cardio vascular exercise produces endorphins which are your body's natural feel good hormones. These will help you through the toughest times, every time you hit a really tough time in the planning get yourself out for a run, mull over the big decisions when you are out. Your blood pressure becomes much more regulated after exercise which will mean that it will be much easier to keep a lid on your internal pressure cooker when the mother in law is 'just trying to help'
  2. Exercise is a good distraction, if your workout is hard enough you will not be able to think about what is stressing, which will give you some valuable respite time. Or going for a run will take all the background noise away and give you clarity to think about that big decision.

When you are exercising it is all about personal accomplishment. After 12 weeks of becoming fitter and stronger you will be much more in tune with your body and your confidence will be sky high. You will also be a master at controlling your breathing to regulate your heart rate helping you to overcome any challenges and make you feel confident while being the center of attention on your special day.
