What Should I Pack For My Honeymoon? A Travel Agent's Advice

[ad_1]

"What should I pack for my honeymoon?" Of all the questions I've fielded from clients, this has got to be the biggest. After all, you've already plotted your course, purchased your flights, and even learned a little of the local culture … now, with the dream becoming a reality, all that's left is what to pack.

In all honesty, your luggage will vary depending whether you're soaking up rays in Cancun or dogsledding in Alaska. For the sake of this article I'm assuming you are headed somewhere warm for at least one week. Here is a list of tips on what to pack for your honeymoon:

Protection from the sun. The surest (and most common) way to ruin a honeymoon is a really brutal sunburn. Include a wide brimmed sun hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses that offer 100% UV protection.

Forget your toys. The single most common advice from travelers is "pack less." In a warm climate you will wear less clothing, and should pack some lightweight options you can layer if it gets cold. Outside of clothes and money (and sometimes a camera) you really do not need anything else.

Check your bags. Airport security seems to change daily, and from airport to airport. I have cleared carry on with one airport, only to have it located at the stopover (and this was in the same country!). Outside of a book, notepad or laptop, I would not advise bringing your luggage with you on the plane.

Dry sheets. Place these in with your wardrobe as this will help prevent wrinkles and prevent your clothes from getting that musky "fresh out the suitcase" smell.

Plan ahead. OK, this only works if you live somewhere cold. If you are planning a trip to a warm climate in the fall or winter, you can pack for this during the summer. This way you avoid rummaging through boxes in your closet trying to find your swimsuit.

In all honesty, you should not concern yourself with what to pack for your honeymoon. Remember, you can always buy what you do not bring with you, and it's a great way to immerse yourself in the local culture. In other words, do not buy a sarong before you fly to Thailand!
