Wedding Gowns for Your Body Type

[ad_1]

We are all unique and gorgeous … under the right circumstances. What looks good on your best friend, might not be flattering on you. And what looks eye-popping on a hanger may leave you in bed with a pint of ice cream an hour later. Do not panic! The perfect dress for you is out there, high fashion or not, and here's how you can avoid devoting hours of trying lackluster looks and hold on to your self-esteem during the great wedding gown hunt.

Hourglass (Over 75% of women are this shape, and you may be a combination of hourglass and one of the others listed below, so keep reading!)

This is described as having broad shoulders, a smaller waist, and fuller hips and legs. The tip here is to focus on your waist. Great dresses for this are 2-pieces or corsets. And If you want to flaunt your luscious curves, you should definitely try a mermaid style. Consider that often times these are more elaborate dresses, so balance your look by toning down the accessories and bridal bouquet.

D-Shape

This is described as having a full waist and flat buttocks. Empire, A-line waists, or straight dresses are great for diminishing your waist size and focusing your attention up top. An elaborate Queen Anne neckline will also do the trick. Stay away from drop waists, as they will make you look thicker from the side.

Pear-shape

If you have narrow shoulders and full buttocks, hips, and legs, this is you. It's also sometimes called A-shape, so an an-line or princess waist is mean for you. Keep the focus on your upper body: your back, arms, and bust line. Strapless and cap sleeves and chapel-length veils are great for this look. Avoid pleats or gathered fabric of any kind around your waist, and no up-dos! Long, flowing hair will create a elasticing effect.

Full-Figured

This is described as having full breasts, a full waist, and curvaceous hips. An empire waist is a good choice as it conceals your waist & hips. Whatever you do, do not be tempted to cover all of your skin! Showing skin is sexy, and showing your arms & neckline can make you appear slimmer. Great necklines that will show off some skin are the V-neck or scoop neck. You can also up the ante on accessories that draw the eyes up. Do not disregard dogs, as they'll add height; just be conscious of your tootsies being taxed on your big day, so shop smart and start breaking them in a couple of weeks prior.

Petite

If you're on the shorter side, unbroken contours without too much fabric will create a taller effect. Taffeta or silk lengthen better than satin, which appears heavier. Aline or straight waists are flattering because, again, lengthening and waist accentuation. Go for a scoop neckline and finger or chapel length veils, and avoid full skirts, which make you look bottom-heavy. There's no need to pack on the accessories either, they may be overwhelming on a small figure. Wardrobe malfunction alert: Careful with strapless gowns, you may be reaching up to your groom for dancing … need I say more? Instead go with cap sleeves; they have the strapless effect while getting the job done of holding up your gown.

Tall and Thin (We all hate you!)

Yes, we all hate you. Almost any dress will do: a-line, princess, mermaid, or ball gowns.

But do avoid empire waists because they can tend to look tent-like. And careful with your bouquet; it's should not be too big, nor too small. Sheath dresses look great as they cling to your great figure.

Broad Shoulder

It's so easy to despise these when they're yours, but believe it or not, you're the envy of many women! You should avoid halters, off-shoulder necklines, crew cuts, or Queen Ann necklines though. Also, avoid spaghetti straps. Instead use strapless gowns or scoop and v-necks. You'll also want to diminish your shoulders by selecting fine, delicate jewelry.

Full Breasts

Again, so easy to hate when they're yours … yet so often advised from across the room! Corsets will make you look top-heavy, and avoid a full skirt as it can make you look large up top and down below. Scoopnecks, v-necks, or square necklines accentuate your lovely assets! Off the shoulder or wide set straps diminish full-busted figures by drawing eyes up to the shoulders. Strapless dresses are not completely out; you'll want to try them on to see.

Full Arms

Off the shoulder straps or sheer sleeves at length will be the most flattering. Do not wear sleeves that are cut tightly! Also, ask your florist to create a bridal bouquet with some weight so your arms are nicely flexed and perky on your walk down the aisle.

Remember, the most beautiful brides are the most confident ones, and we all have assets to flaunt with the right dress. Consider hiring a fashion consultant to help steer you in the right direction right off the bat so you are not left trying on dress after dress after dress, resulting in fantasies to give up and elope. They can also help you with everyone else's attire too. (Your groom will thank you, but your bridesmaids will thank you even more!)
