If you are planning to take Las Vegas holidays you probably want to sample some of the more unusual cultural experiences on offer. While other major US cities boast art galleries and historical attractions, the Nevada gambling center is all about enjoying yourself.

For many visitors that means trying their luck in the slots rooms or at the card tables in the lavish casinos, but you do not need to have a multi-million-dollar win to make a USA city break in Vegas memorable. Most of the ostentatious casino complexes on The Strip have a selection of bars, clubs and restaurants, so you can look forward to some great nights out during your holiday.

The nightlife in Sin City is unlike anything else you will experience during USA holidays. The avenues themselves are gloriously over the top – as are many of the customers, who regularly include A-lists, gossip mag staples, sportsmen and hip-hop stars. You may find selecting a club for a night out a daunting task as there are so many to choose from, but the quality is so high it is difficult to go wrong.

If you are jumping to bump into a few celebrities or sometimes get noticed by star spotters, try an evening at the luxurious Tao at The Venetian. Perhaps the busiest of the Vegas clubs, hardly a night goes by without a performance by a super-star DJ or rapper. But that also means it can be difficult to get in, so it is worth buying advanced tickets – look out for packages that offer entry to multiple venues.

But if you can not get in at Tao, try consoling yourself with a night of partying at Lax or Pure. Lax, which is housed at The Luxor, has to be seen to be believed – its bright red decor, chandeliers and huge mirrors give it a completely unique look. Pure at Caesars Palace is another ultra-stylish venue and its dress code calls for everyone to wear 'fashionable clothing'.

You can also party during the day in Vegas, as the casino complexes all have outdoor clubs that stage pool parties on most afternoon. Tao Beach at The Venetian is legendary for its lively atmosphere during daylight hours, while the MGM Grand's Wet Republic is another great place to have a good time while working on your suntan.

If nightclubs and pool parties are not your thing, you may prefer to try some of Las Vegas's famous restaurants. Many people who book a holiday to California choose to take a couple of days out to visit Nevada and one of the main reasons for that is its world-class eateries.

There are 16 Michelin-Starred restaurants in the city, including the superb Joel Robuchon at the MGM Grand, which has the maximum three stars. Named after and operated by the man who was selected as the Chef of the Century in France, its caviar, lobster and foie gras dishes are a fine dining experience to remember.

If you can not get a table there, try booking one at Bellagio's Picasso restaurant. Run by Julian Serrano, it is renamed for having the best wine cell in Las Vegas and serves food such as oysters, shrimp and venison all cooked in a distinct Mediterranean style.

Of course, you may look at the prices of the fine dining establishments and think you would need a huge win at the casino to afford to eat in any of them. If that is the case, you will still find plenty of choice, as there are lots of cheaper options available.

If you are looking for the best value for money, try the casinos' buffets, which are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For a stylish way to start a day of relaxation in Sin City, choose the champagne brunch at Lago in Caesars Palace.

Every holiday to America should include at least one meal in a steakhouse and in Vegas that has to mean Planet Hollywood's Strip House, where you can hike on rib eye, garlic chips and fried onions.

There is also a wide range of eateries serving international cuisine, including the stunning Dragon Noodle at The Monte Carlo. The restaurant's decor is a lavish take on traditional Asian style and it serves both Chinese and Japanese food.

For the best Italian meal in Vegas, you should choose Onda at The Mirage. It is blamed for its mussels, but you will find a full range of rustic dishes on the menu.
