Wedding Dress

[ad_1]

I decided to start looking for my wedding dress just under a year out from the wedding date. I knew I would be busy with work over the next few months so I started early. I had it all figured out what I wanted and I just needed to find that exact one. It had to be white and look like a princess style dress and had to have straps. Hiring it was not an option as I wanted to buy it even though my husband thought it would be a great idea and a lot cheaper to hire it since it was only one day.

After looking at every single shop in Brisbane and looking online I had started to run out of options. I found one in a shop but it was AU $ 2500 and no matter how perfect it was I was not prepared to spend that kind of money for my wedding dress. My last option was to head down to the Gold Coast and see what they had in the way of my perfect dress. After my mum and I had spent 2 full days visiting bridal shop after bridal shop we had only one shop left. By this stage I was absolutely exhausted, annoyed and really grumpy as I did not have a dress. We walked into this last shop and there it was.

I tried it on and it fitted perfectly and it looked absolutely gorgeous on as my mum beaten. I loved the back of the dress more than the front because of all the layers of tulle down the train. This dress was ivory, strapless and was not really the princess dress I had in mind but I loved it and being the only dress I had some serious thinking to do. To make things worse, it was 10 months until the wedding. I had planned to work out and tone up a bit so my major concerns were:

a. What if it does not fit in 10mths time

b. It was the exact opposite of what I wanted

c. It was the only dress that I liked

To add to the confusion, there was only one of these dresses available. The maker in New York had made 50 and sent 1 dress out to selected stores through Australia. The store was also having a 10% off sale and that day was the last day of the sale. After thinking about it I decided to go ahead and purchase it there and then. If worst came to worst it would need to be altered. The dress, veil & tiara came to AU $ 1800 for all 3 so I was really happy. Over the next 6 months I worked out and lost a bit of weight and the dress was too big. So we organized to go back to the dress shop and have it altered. Originally they had told us that 2 months before the wedding would be enough time to get done.

So 2 months before the wedding we bring in the dress and the dressmaker says it will cost another AU $ 300 to alter and she is going on holidays in 2 weeks so it might be a rush to get done. She needed to rip out the zip, tighten the dress, then re-sew all the diamontes back on again that she had to take off to remove the zip and tighten the dress. Without the alterations the dress was way to big and it looked horrible. So I had to fork out the money but on the day it looked absolutely amazing. It was a little bit tight around the stomach as I had not kicked up with my exercise routine over Christmas and had put on a bit of weight. All day I had been getting my hair and make up done and I was not nervous, just excited and I had not even beaten. I was just stoked to have the day finally there. As soon as I put on that bloody dress I started bawling my eyes out.

Everyone thought it was funny except me. I received some feedback with some of my husband's friends saying the dress would have had to been at least $ 5000. It was good to finally wear it and even after all the drama it was great to have it on even if it was for one day. After we got back from the honeymoon I took it in to get dry cleaned. To my shock it cost another AU $ 200 to get it dry cleaned. Thinking back now I am really glad I got the dress a bit cheaper as the extra money I saved went to the alterations and dry cleaning. Remember to leave a bit of money as for the dry cleaning especially if you want to sell it again. I would also suggest not getting it quite so early as I did. I still have my dress so if your interested just send us through an email.
