Historical sites are amazing wedding venues that can bring "old world" charm to any wedding. 1. Does the building have any structural limitations? These will include, floor space, are the rooms too small for dancing or are the rooms broken up in such a way that it breaks up the party. Restrooms also need to be considered as well as parking.Space can be a challenging challenge due to the fact that many historical sites were not designed to accommodate a free-flowing celebration such as a wedding reception.
2. Does the site have restrictions on decorating? Historical sites will often times have objects such as furniture, art, lighting and other things that must be protected from any type of damage, so there may be limits on much you can decorate or add to the ambiance.
3. You will also want to have full knowledge regarding any restrictions when it comes to music. Where do your musician need to be positioned and what type of restrictions are there music volume and noise ordinances. And most importantly, the electrical system can handle such demands. If the setting is broken into smaller rooms, you may have to place entertainers in different rooms or floors. Check if dancing is allowed and, if so, whether a portable dance floor is required or provided for you.
4. Check to see if there is any restrictions on the food and beverages. Many historical sites will not allow red wine do the risk of permanent stains. Some sites will not allow guests to carry hos dor oves from room to room. While others will require that you have a special liquor permit for your event. You will want to confirm there's enough kitchen space and equipment for your needs. If not, a caterer or rental company must supply it at extra cost to you. Also, ask wherever lit candles are allowed.
5. You will want to know all that is required of you for any insurance that might be needed for any liability, as accidents can occur, whether to one of your guests or to property. And, for a historic setting, such mishaps can be costly. You may need event insurance that will cover you for the single party. You can also check with your own homeowners policy, if you have one, to see if it extends coverage for your wedding.
Historical locations can provide a memorable setting for your wedding and spotlight the romance of your special day, but it is good to be aware of these possibilities. You do not want to get attached to a venue, only to find out that you could be facing some draw backs. Plan your wedding with your eyes wide open, and you will have no regrets.
