Finding inexpensive wedding centerpieces will be one of your biggest decorating challenges for your wedding. If you are having a vintage or rustic wedding, you can find old jars and fun cans from supply stores to use as containers. Or, you can make your flower arrangements very stylish by have just a few striking flowers in a tall vase surrounded by tea candles.

2. Use Fun Fillers:

Take either low or high glass bowls or vases and fill them with something unusual. Examples include pebbles, glass beads, marbles, colorful candy such as M&Ms, or colorful fruit. This works particularly well if the room you are in already has some character and does not need much decoration to enhance it. Pick fillers that go with your overall color scheme and wedding theme to tie everything together.

3. Do Double Duty:

Table decorations that do double duty will save you loads of money in the long run. Decorated picture frames at each place setting, individual plant party favors that guests can take home, or colorful favor boxes stacked like a wedding cake in the center all double as both decorations and wedding favors.

4. Light Up the Room:

Candles can make all the difference to your reception tables. While candles will be lost in an outdoor wedding in daylight, candles will create a romantic glow in an indoors reception in the evening. Try floating candles in a bowl of water, which you can color by dipping in colored tissue paper or crepe paper. Or place a single candelabra on each table with tall tapered candles in each.

5. Add Flashes of Color:

Use brightly colored or bold linens to create a shock of color that does not need much in the way of a centerpiece at all. Just be sure to keep a limit on the number of colors you use. Stick to two colors plus white, or one color plus black and white. Then use inexpensive accessories to add more detail. You can drape ribbons across the table, streamers hanging from the ceiling, or one big marbled balloon anchored to the center of the table with a balloon weight.

Take the cue for your wedding table decorations from your reception room, wedding colors, and wedding theme. Then take a close look at your budget and establish a fixed limit for all your decorations. Check to see what your catering hall or wedding venue can provide for you before you run out to buy anything on your own. You might even be able to buy some of your decorations from previous brides.
