If you have not already locked in a date then this might be your first step. Consider your family and friends and what regular or annual engagements they might have. Generally the better or recognized venues are going to be booked well in advanced so make sure you lock this down early and be prepared to change your preferred wedding date if your future of choice is not available, or have a second choice up your sleeve.

Think about what your going to do with the venue when your there. Where will the guests be sorted, will there be decorations, centerpieces, flowers, lighting, audio, stage. Make sure you think of all these things while you are searching for your avenues.

What are you going to serve for dinner / lunch?

Does your venue have a preferred or exclusive cater or kitchen? If it's a busy venue then most likely you will have to use their catering. Make sure you asses the menu, and sample the food before you make your selections.

Consider your guests and and special conditions

Who is responsible for what and when do they have to have it done by? Making sure everyone is on the right page is essential. If communication is not clear then things will go wrong.

Make sure there is a clear and detailed schedule for the day, and make sure everyone involved has it well in advanced. Once this has been created and looked over, make sure you stick to it.

If all of this is just too much for you then allot of couples are contracting the services of an event manager, or wedding planner. These services are well worth the extra spend. They will take a whole lot of stress away from you, and often save you money buy knowing what is needed and the best places to get them from.

This is just a touch on some of the different items to take into consideration for your wedding reception. The options are endless only limited by your budget.
