Dry shampoos work extremely well for removing oil and dirt from your hair when you can not get to shower for traditional shampoo. These shampoos are most commonly used between regular shampoos to remove excess oil and dirt. These shampoos also work very well for the disabled and elderly during periods when they cannot reach a shower for traditional shampoo.
Dry shampoos come in a couple of forms. The oldest and most widely used form is a powder. Much like talcum powder, it can be shaken into the hair and then brushed out. More recently, these shampoos have been available in spray form. Most commonly, the spray forms used a spray powder style, which dries very much to the consistency of the old powder shampoos. A less common form of dry shampoo, is a more wet version that is alcohol-based this is applied exactly like hairspray, and then removes oil as it dries
The most common and most widely available form of shampoo spray today, is the spray powder form, which is available from a variety of companies in drugstores and beauty supply stores. Some, such as Salon Graphix, even offer a spray that is tailored to your hair color. Using color avoids the problem common to some older dry shampoos, which can leave a dull gray powder in your hair. Be warned however, if you are using a colored form of shampoo spray, that darker shades can leave dark stains of color on your clothing if the excess powder lands on them.
All dry shampoos can work fairly well, assuming the product is brushed thoroughly from your hair as instructed. The key thing to remember when applying this type of shampoo, is to start out with as little as possible and brush it out thoroughly. You can always add more if needed, using too much can leave your hair dry and stiff. Proper application and thorough brushing can give excellent results with this type of shampoo product, for those times when you just cannot get to the shower for traditional shampoo, or you need to remove a little excess oil.
