When it comes to planning a wedding on a budget, the inexpensive wedding dress is one of the more interesting items to deal with on the list.
Emotion plays a lot into the cost of weddings continuing to rise. When brides are able to step back and take a more business-like approach to wedding planning, they will tend to do better with being organized and staying on budget.
The wedding gown is probably one of the harder things to stay business-like about since after all this is what many of us have dreamed about! When you dream about your future wedding, it's always an image of you in a dress with the handsome man you love. Well, at least for me it was.
So do your best to stay rational, and you will definitely find your elegant perfect bridal gown. And you do not have to compromise your budget either!
So here are my tips for getting that inexpensive wedding dress!
1) Buy off-season or last-season.
This would be November-December time frame. This also happens to be when the bridal business slows down so you will find lower prices and / or more flexibility
2) Buy the accessories separately.
For convenience you can get them at the bridal shop, but realize that bridal gown accessories tend to have a high markup at the bridal shops as well. eBay is great for this! This would be your veil, gloves, tiara, jewelry, etc.
3) Go simple.
Weddings are becoming less traditional these days. I think due to more independence and creative thought from women as time passes (YAY!). For example, delicious cupcakes in place of the traditional wedding cake. Non-floral artsy glass centerpieces instead of the traditional flowers. In this case, simple and classic wedding gowns instead of the traditional expensive bridal gown! In this case you can find some great simple and beautiful wedding dresses for under $ 200! As an example of a Google search I just did, I found Lingt In The Box with some simple and elegant modern wedding dresses for under $ 200!
4) You do not need to find the perfect dress size
Even if you do find the "perfect dress size", it will need to be altered anyway. So if you find a great dress that is inexpensive that is only slightly off, that might do. Take it to professional tailoring to get it fitted. If you go this route, you might want to consult your tailor or seamstress first.
5) eBay !!
I mentioned using eBay for dress accessories. But check it out for the dresses! I just searched and found a few bridal vendors with elegant traditional wedding dresses for less than $ 200! Make sure to find a "reputable" seller (high feedback ranking). Many really nice dresses, new and used, are on eBay for very little money. To put it in perspective, a nice wedding dress at a local store may cost you $ 1500. A comparable wedding dress on eBay could probably be found for $ 200.
In fact Erica Yoon in her book "Amazing Wedding Planning" has an endless section on wedding dresses with the heading that you can find your perfect wedding dress on eBay for $ 50! And gives her resources and eBay links to back it up. Check that out if you have time
Good luck and happy hunting for those inexpensive wedding dresses!
