4 Beauty and Makeup Tips for Winter Weather

[ad_1]

Winter can be a difficult season for our skincare and beauty regimes, as the harsh conditions outside and excess of heating indoors can not only affect whether our makeup stays put or not, but can also cause damage to our skin too. Here are four tips to make sure that your skin is at its best and that you make great makeup choices throughout the colder season.

One of the most important beauty tips at this time of the year – even more so than in other seasons – is to make an extra effort to keep a very healthy diet and drink plenty of water. Although this is the time of year when you want to indulge in comfort food and hot chocolate, unhealthy food choices will take their toll on the skin.

In addition to this, many people tend to drink less water due to the colder weather, instead enjoying more hot drinks. It is important to stay hydrated however, so make sure that you are avoiding too many caffeine containing drinks such as coffee and tea, instead drinking plenty of water, or even herbals teas if you feel like something a little more warming.

As well as making sure that you are still eating healthily and drinking enough fluids, the second tip that will help your skin – and therefore your makeup looks – throughout winter, is making sure that you exfoliate and moisturise your skin on a regular basis.

Both the cold weather outside and the heating indoors can dry out skin much more rapidly than usual, and you will need to adapt your skincare routine to cater to these particular seasonal needs. Look to exfoliate with a gentle exfoliator of choice on a regular basis, and follow up with a rich moisturiser in the morning and before you go to sleep at night.

Having healthy skin to work with will ensure that your makeup looks its best, as you have the best base possible to work with.

With this in mind, our third tip is to look for a base that is moisturising in addition to using a moisturiser. How hydrating your base should be will all depend on your skin, but selecting a product that will melt into the skin – rather than sit on top and become dry and flaky due to the harsh weather – will yield much better results.

To find a product that is suitable for you, go to your local beauty counter to ask for advice on the right foundation or BB cream for your skin at this time of the year. Alternatively, search for makeup bloggers online who have tested and evaluated a number of different winter base products and have recommendations for certain types of skin.

Our fourth tip is to be aware that your skin may be extra sensitive during the winter weather, so it is often advisable to opt for products that are suitable for sensitive skin. This includes everything from your face scrub to your mascara, so be aware that it may well be worth having a little makeup bag overhaul in time for the cold season.

If you do have to swap out a few of your regular products, look again for makeup bloggers’ recommendations or ask at your local beauty counter for sensitive versions of the products that you already love. Many top brands will have sensitive skin versions of all your favourites, so you will not have to search too much for an ideal replacement during the winter period.

These few tips will help you face the cold season with a smile, with your skin looking and feeling fresh and healthy. On top of this, using sensitive skin makeup products and moisturising products recommended by your favourite beauty counter or makeup bloggers will keep you looking good, without irritating your skin even further.
