The way you care for your skin in your 20s is reasonably vastly different than how you will care for it in your 40s. Your skin changes, ages, alters in composition. In general, you should take good care of your skin and get into the habit of doing so even before your skin shows signs of aging. In your 20s

You should wear a sunscreen every day and try to limit sun exposure. Some dermatologists believe that 80 percent of skin aging is due to too much time in the sun.
If you diet a lot, it's best to give up the yo-yo dieting. This is bad for your skin, and takes a toll on your body as well.
In your 30s
Your lifestyle will begin to catch up on your skin in your 30s, and cell renewal is continuing to slow down, so you can only take so many liberties before it all shows on your skin.
Continue your good regimen of cleansing, moisturizing and using sunscreen. You might also want to begin using a cream that contains Vitamin E for extra antioxidant support.
Eat a diet that's rich in color, and therefore antioxidants. These powerful vitamins (found in superfoods like blueberries, spinach, nuts and peppers) will help the skin repair itself.
Do not forget to keep drinking water in abundance and getting enough sleep. Reduce the amount of alcohol that you drink as well.
In your 40s
Oil production plummets in your 40s, so using a good moisturizer is even more important now. If you have oily skin, you might not notice this as much, but you still need a good moisturizer to stave off that oncoming dry skin.
In your 40s, it's more important than ever to eat right, drink plenty of water and get plenty of rest. Your skin can not recover as quickly from abuse as it might have when you were younger.
Begin using exfoliant products if you have not already. Sloughing off the dead skin cells from the surface of the skin allows new skin cells to form and this keeps your skin from becoming dry and dull looking.
Look for anti aging cream products containing Vitamin C, antioxidants such as idebenone and coenzyme Q10, which can help reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles.
Beyond
As you reach your 50s and beyond, continue the solid and high-quality care measures you began when you were younger. Use a gentle cleanser and go easy with exfoliating products (which can damage the very thin and delicate older skin).
Consider trying to use a wrinkle cream that's labeled "anti aging". These products contain ingredients that are specifically designed for aging skin and can help to restore some youthful luster.
Do not wait until you are older to take care of your skin. Begin when you are young and your skin will look better and be easier to care for as you age.
