It's no secret that royal brides always start wedding dress trends. It seems like the world can not get enough of watching a woman who wants to transform into a princess on her big day actually become a real princess. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were married in 2011, yet the former Miss Middleton's dress is still causing trends today.

However, royal brides the world over have enraptured the world and not only affected bridal trends but also every day fashions. Now, let's take a look back at some of the most famous and beautiful royal wedding dresses to have ever sought.

One can not mention the beauty and significance of a royal bride's gown without mentioning the dress that started them all, Princess Grace of Monaco's gown. It was the first televised royal marriage and the small principality did not disappoint her audience. The gown was created by costume designer Helen Rose.

That dress caused a sensation and not only were replicas created almost instantly, it has been seen as the inspiration behind the Duchess of Cambridge's wedding dress. However, the Duchess's wedding dress can still hold its own in history. It was designed by Alexander McQueen's creative director Sarah Burton.

It has long sleeves and a modest neckline in order to keep with the unspoken tradition of Westminster Abbey. Much like Princess Grace's dress, it spawned a host of immediate replicas and single-handedly ushered in the new trend of sleeved wedding dresses.

Another equally stunning, yet little known dress was worn by the former Countess Stephanie de Lannoy in her marriage to Grand Duke Guillaume of Luxembourg. The bride wore a dress by red carpet and royal favorite, Elie Saab. The A-line dress quickly became a favorite with the audience and one look at it and people can see why.

Now, let's hope from one small country to another one, namely Monaco. The former Charlene Wittstock had a very interesting prelude to her wedding, but she made it down the aisle in a stunning manner. Princess Charlene's dress was a study in modern elegance.

She is one of few, if any, royal brides that did not elect to wear long sleeves, but opted to wear short sleeves. However, the dress was simple, elegant and definitely fit for the future Princess of Monaco. Is anyone surprised that it was made by the king of elegance himself, Giorgio Armani?

If one ventures up north, he or she will encounter two royal sisters and brides who decided to wear beautiful dresses on their big days. Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and Princess Madeleine of Sweden are two beautiful sisters who were equally beautiful dresses on the happiest days of their lives.

The eldest, Crown Princess Victoria, wore a beautiful, short-sleeved boatneck dress designed by Swedish designer Pär Engsheden in her marriage to Daniel Westling. Only three short years later did her sister, Princess Madeleine follow her down the aisle wearing a beautiful Valentino Haute Couture Gown.

However, in terms of impact, all of these dresses pales in comparison to the wedding of the century. One in which Lady Diana Spencer married Charles, Prince of Wales. Lady Diana was swathed in antique lace and silk taffeta. It was designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel and typifies 80s fashion, with a bit of restraint.

It is by far the most famous wedding gown, never mind royal wedding gown, in all of history. The dress has proved so popular that scores of people have turned out to see it when it has been on display.

Royal brides are very influential on wedding trends and even today's styles. Movies, real brides and more use many of the above wedding dresses as inspiration for their own dresses. One can only wonder how many people are waiting to see what Prince George's wife will be wearing on their big day.
