It is not too often that you turn on the news and hear an uplifting story, but there is a great one in the news right now. A non-profit organization called Brides Across America has teamed up with bridal salons and wedding designers to give free bridal gowns to military brides, helping them to have their dream weddings. Learn more about this incredible act of philanthropy and how you can become involved, whether you are a bride-to-be or someone looking to help a military bride.
Brides Across America was created because it is an all-too-common fact of life that planning a wedding when you are in the service or marrying a man in the armed forces can be very difficult. Weddings may have to be rushed because of a deployment. Or couples may have to wait a long time to have a wedding because one or both of them is deployed far away. Money can be tight too, especially when a wedding has to be planned very quickly. The idea behind the wedding gown giveaway is to help women who are either active duty military or whose fiances are in the armed forces to have a beautiful wedding while wearing a gorgeous gown.
Every bride deserves to feel like a princess as she glides down the aisle in a stunning gown with her veil and wedding jewelry, but it takes the right dress to make this come true. Brides Across America has teamed up with bridal salons all across the country to donate free gowns to qualifying brides. The wedding gowns are donated by the host bridal shops, as well as by top designers, including Vera Wang, Amsale, and Carolina Herrera, just to name a few. The organization also accepts donations of gowns and money from individuals who wish to help out a military bride.
The participating bridal salons will each have a limited number of free gowns to give to deserving brides, on a first come, first serve basis. The samples range in size from 4 to 22, so there is something for every shape and size. Of course, free wedding gowns are sure to go fast, so any interested bride will want to show up bright and early at her local participating bridal salon! Bring along any special accessories you wish to wear on your wedding day, such as a piece of jewelry your fiance gave you or a family veil; being prepared makes it easier to make a decision on a bridal gown.
Please be aware that any bride interested in choosing one of the free wedding gowns will have to fulfill certain requirements. First of all, you must be engaged and planning a wedding (they will also consider helping women who were married by a j.p. and are now planning a wedding). Either the bride or her fiance must be an active member of the military, who is presently, was previously, or will soon be deployed in Iraq or Afghanistan. Positive ID and deployment papers must be presented in order to qualify for the gown giveaway, so be sure to check the Brides Across America website to get all of the necessary documents together before shopping.
While the free gowns for military brides is a limited time event, there are plenty of other ways to assist a military bride who may miss out this time around. Consider donating a gown or money towards future events. Or on the local level, a group of friends could get together to help a military bride with the cost of her gown, especially for a wedding that has to be rushed due to an impending deployment. When romance, sisterhood, and love of country all come together, it is a beautiful thing indeed.
