Hello lovelies! I figured from

Hello lovelies! I figured from my last beauty secret post, I would do a series as the coconut oil post is quite popular! If you haven’t already read it, click here!

I recently discovered this beauty secret after my mother returned with some batches of this. She is obsessed with it and even eats it! Haha.

A great way to get glowing skin is by using orange peel. Yes, orange peel. Peel from an orange. When I first discovered my mother eating it and using it on her face, I was so freaked out. But truely, orange peel has great benefits as it contains anti-cholesterol compounds, averts cancer, provides natural relief for heartburn, indigestion, respiratory conditions and digestive problems. Well, if you consume it that is!

In addition to the many health benefits of orange peel, there are benefits for the skin! Orange peel is widely acknowledged for giving a lovely glow to your skin. On the other hand, when combined with the right ingredients, orange peel can be used for many different skin-related problems!

You can purchase this from any asian supermarket or make your own! Simply just remove the peel from 2-3 oranges and store them under sunlight and let them dry for 2-3 days. When completely dried, grind in a blender and store in an air-tight container.

Note: Please make sure the oranges/orange peel powder you use is 100% natural! We want to avoid fruits filled with unnatural chemicals at all costs.

For oily skin

This is great for extracting blackheads/whiteheads! Mixing orange peel powder with plain yoghurt is said to be effective if you are having troubles with black spots and/or blemishes on your face. I would say mix two and a half flat tablespoons with two tablespoons of yoghurt, apply onto your face and scrub gently, then proceed to wash your face after fifteen minutes.

For oily/acne prone skin

Mix a tablespoon of orange peel powder with egg white and a few drops of lemon juice and apply onto your face, after fifteen minutes wash your face as usual. I recommend doing this once or twice a week, depending on how bad your skin problems are. Orange peel is great for unclogging pores and facing acne!

For a fresh face/dry skin

I do not recommend this to people with oily skin. Mix orange peel powder with milk and apply it to your face. Wash it off after twenty minutes. Then, with lukewarm water, gently rub and continue to moisturise as usual.

The ultimate face mask using orange peel powder!

Combining these two bad ass ingredients, orange peel powder and turmeric powder, will create an amazing mask with many benefits. If you don’t know about turmeric powder for the skin by now, it’s time to get out from under that cave. It’s anti-flammatory and anti-oxidant properties help with acne, rosacea, building up collagen, and slows down the aging process of skin. Those aren’t even all the benefits!

Anyway, mixing orange peel powder (one teaspoon) , turmeric powder (a pinch), honey (one teaspoon) and milk (one teaspoon) is great if you want to remove dead skin cells effectively yet gently, desire glowing skin and want to look youthful! The significant quantity of calcium in orange peel and milk is quite effective for protecting the skin against premature aging. The milk and orange peel powder will effectively exfoliate skin cells and shrink large pores. The role of the honey in this mask is to hydrate and nourish the skin. As honey is anti-bacterial and anti-septic, it wards off acne. It also helps tone the skin.

Note: Beware of turmeric staining the skin. Not everyone experiences this problem but I know my mother and I have. A simple way to get rid of this is by using a sugar scrub or washing your face multiple times. Wearing old clothes help too as turmeric can stain clothes very easily.

Swelling of skin

Orange peel/peel powder is also known for provide relief from pain and swelling of the skin, such as an insect bite.

Teeth whitening

This is just a bonus point, orange peel has bleaching properties which are great for natural teeth whitening! Just mix a bit of powder with some water and rub it on your teeth. It is one of the cheapest ways to remove stains from your teeth/whiten them!

Here is what the orange peel powder I purchased, looks like and what I used.

I used two heaped teaspoons of orange peel powder, mixed it with water until my desire consistency, and smeared it all over my face. I made it quite thick as I felt it would have more affect, but that’s the way I usually pefer my face masks. If anybody is worried about the smell, I wasn’t really put off by it, I don’t think it was that strong.

I waited until the mask dried, but left it a bit longer as I was curious to get the maximum potential out of it. I felt such a difference in my face and I had only mixed it with water! My pores were dramatically minimised (nothing has ever made them disappear but this worked wonders on them). I didn’t feel the need to exfoliate! My face felt fresh, soft and supple. I also noticed how much more even my skin was. My under eye circles didn’t look anywhere near as bad as they usually do. I was impressed!

However, I later found out I am allergic to this, as my face started reacting about an hour afterwards:weary::weary::weary::weary:.

Silly me for not doing a patch test! I have never really been allergic to anything as of recently, so I didn’t feel the need to do an allergy test, because I’m an idiot. So I strongly urge you to do a patch test if you try this guys! Nonetheless, it did still work wonders for my skin.

Here is a picture of me looking rather dirty with the mask on, and the end results. (I forgot to take a picture before I applied the mask but let me assure you it looked a lot worse before)

Before and after... kind of

Before and after… kind of

My skin is not perfect, I have a lot of trouble with spots/acne on my forehead and acne scarring on the sides of my face. I felt like this made it look so much softer. I never really get to experience the ‘glowing skin’ kind of look. After using this though (before my reaction), I did feel like I looked so much more glowy rather than oily. And as you can see it has lessened the discolouration on my face.

Note: These pictures were took with flash so I could illustrate the quality in a better, more realistic manner.

Unfortunately I cannot use it again, but I still wanted to post this up for you guys as I feel it will benefit so many people and it’s not something everyone knows about! Hence why it fits perfectly in my beauty secret series!
