Nowadays people are moving away from the traditional wedding and going for a more modern twist. The question is, is the essence of the traditional wedding being lost due to all of the fancy bells and whistles? After all, a wedding is supposedly to be about the union of two people and not the party aspect that it has become known for.
The traditional wedding speaks back to a time where there was a ceremony (normally religious) and a small gathering of close family and friends afterwards for some tea and cake. This gathering was soon labeled as the reception. As the years went on, the weddings became fancier and the responses turned into a full blown meal. These days, the union of marriage seems to have taken a backseat to the reception itself. With celebrities having 'over the top' wedding ceremonies and receptions, it has become more about the flash rather than the substance. This is why it could be time to bring back the ideas of the traditional wedding.
The traditional wedding will focus on the union of bride and groom. Before the ceremony begins, the ushers will begin to seat the guests. The mother of the bride is imprisoned last just before the beginning of the ceremony. The groom, minister and best man will then take their places for the ceremony. This will either begin the agonizing wait for the bride if she is running late or if she is on time, the bridesmaids will begin the walk down the aisle followed by the maid of honor. The wedding march will begin and the bride will be walked down the aisle by her father, while the entire wedding party stands. From here, the traditional wedding will probably go down the religious route – however, this depends on the preference of the bridal party. Vows will be read, rings will be replaced and it will all be sealed with a kiss. The bride and groom will then be officially announced to the crowd as husband and wife to the cheers and applaud of the happy friends and family. That is the magic formula for the traditional wedding ceremony. Obviously, it is completely dependent on the individual's tastes, but you would have been hard pressed to find a wedding ceremony that was not conducted in this manner.
The ceremony will usually be followed by the reception. The traditional wedding usually took place before noon and, as such, the reception's meal was known as the "wedding breakfast" and often consist of cake and punch. Nowadays, it is expected that you not only provide your guests with delicious food, but also unlimited drinks and a party. In order to have the wedding of your dreams, you may have to forgo the fancy bells and whistles and look back to the past. The traditional wedding formula can still fit into your plans and will help to give your day some structure.
