Tips For Starcraft II 1v1

[ad_1]

This is not a guide for how to beat people in one on one matches but rather tips and tricks that will help you play better and give you a fighting chance against anyone nothing matter who you are playing against.

First and foremost you absolutely must know which strategy your opponent is trying to employ. Are they trying for a quick expand to out macro you? Are they trying to tech extremely quickly and dominate you with tier four units? Maybe they are trying to mass tier one or two units to overwhelm you early? Finally they could be trying to cheese you by building defensive structures inside your base or going after your miners. Once you realize what route your opponent is going COUNTER. The game of Starcraft is all about how you react to your opponent and the beauty of the game is that there is always a counter for something.

The second thing you must do is know the counter for a particular strategy. I would highly recommend playing a user made game type called Battlecraft to where you will quickly learn which units do well against others. Another game type to try out could be Composition Wars which works on the same principle. Some examples light melee units lose to Terran Hellions, Zerg Roaches, or Protoss Dark Templars or air. Another scenario could be your Protoss opponent is going zealot rush, you know this because you scouted his base and he is building two or more Gateways and is not building to harvest vespene gas. As Terran you would simply wall off your entrance and build Marauders and Siege Tanks. As Zerg you would counter with Roaches. As Protoss you would wall off your entrance and build Photon Cannons. In short learn your counters.

My final tip for this article is to vary your army. The reason for this is that if your opponent is worth his weight then he will be scouting you as well and he will know if you are massing one particular unit and he or she will simply build counter units and you will be screwed. Learn to complement your units with other units that can cover weaknesses to give your army great synergy. For example if you are Protoss and you want to rush quickly with infantry do not just build Zealots but add some Stalkers and Sentries to your mix to cover your weaknesses to air. If you are Terran guild some Siege Tanks to go along with your Marine / Marauder to protect against a strong melee counter.

In summary the three things you need to do to have successful matches in the one versus one category is to scout your opponent. This is the key if nothing else you must know what your opponent is doing at all times. Once you do step one figure out a legitimate counter to your opponent's strategy. And finally Vary your troop and attack points to keep your opponent guessing on how to counter your strategy, I can not tell you how many matches I've won because because I attacked on more than one front. Good luck and have fun!
