Tips For Straightening Hair

[ad_1]

Face it, this season, curly and wavy hair is out. Straight hair is in. nothing looks quite as elegant as poker straight locks framing your face. No wonder, then, that almost all the women out there are going in for professional hair straightening nowdays. But if you have colored hair, it might be a good idea to stay away from the straightener. A combination of these two can be dangerous to your hair. Remember that before you go for professional hair straightening, it is always a good idea to consult your hair dresser on whether your hair will be able to maintain itself. Many women go in for professional hair straightening, only to be left with bad quality hair. To avoid that, get the advice first, and then make the choice.

If you want to do your hair straightening at home, there are some things you need to know about the procedure and technique first. We will give you some valuable tips.

First, it is very important to use a mild shampoo and conditioner – this moisturizes your hair and keeps it well protected. With regular deep conditioning, your hair will have a healthy bounce and shine. Always wait till your hair is fully dry before doing the straightening. Detangling products and a wide-toothed comb can help you comb out your hair and remove any tangles. This will make it easier to straighten.

Before straightening, you can add just a drop of serum to your palms, massage them, and spread it over your hair. This not only adds bounce to your gorgeous locks, but it also provides some bounce – you would be surprised to know that just a drop of serum goes a long way in maintaining your straight hair!

Remember that straightening irons should always be used with care, and also should be used sparingly. If you use an iron every second day, it can be very damaging for your day. Therefore it is advisable that you use the iron only for special occasions, like when you want poker-straight locks for a formal party or a dinner date – something like that.

Hair can also be blow-dried straight, but this takes a lot of time. If you go for this method, you would need to use a protective product on your hair first, as the heat can be quite slimming and can dry out your hair. A good quality blow-dryer is essential; the air flow must also be strong. If you are going for regular blow-drying, it is important that you indulge in weekly hair treatment to prevent your hair from becoming frazzled.

A good tip is to apply straightening balm to each separated section as you are doing the straightening – this makes the straightening much more effective. You can use a paddle brush for poker-straight hair, and a round brush for a soft curved finish.

Those with wavy or curly hair should wash their hair with a shampoo, and then use a good quality conditioner which will nourish the hair. Once you come out of the shower, you should wring your hair until it stops dripping, and then dry it vigorously with a towel. A bit of straightening gel should be applied before the blow drying and in between the towel drying, then you can start blow drying your hair by taking separated sections at a time, with a flat brush. You may consider using a bit of cream to keep the hair straight and non-frizzy, depending on what the temperature is like, this look is likely to last you at least 2 days.

While doing the hair straightening – it is imperative to make sure that the flat iron plates are clean – you should use a damp cloth on the cool iron plates to wipe away any residue before starting the procedure. Before starting the straightening, allow the iron to heat up to full temperature – this gives better results. It is also a good idea to blow dry your hair straight before ironing it – this not only dries it out (and it avoids burning of hair), but it also prepares your hair for the straightening.

It is a good idea to section your hair into layers – you can start with the bottom layers at the back, and then work your way up and around.
