Trying on Wedding Gowns – The Golden Rules

[ad_1]

Choosing a wedding gown is one of the largest planning decisions a bride will have to make, so here are some tips to help find the perfect wedding gown.

  1. Make sure you can move freely. Remember that you are likely to be sitting, kneeling, dancing and getting in and out of cars.
  2. Does the dress sit well? Puckering, wrinkling, pulling or bunching of the fabric means the fit / size is probably wrong.
  3. Ask what sort of lingerie you will need to buy to create a smooth silhouette, or bring along the lingerie you will wear on the day. (See our lingerie tips below.)
  4. Does the gown match your personality? Do you feel silly, embarrassed or overpowered? If so, this is not the gown for you.
  5. Take your time and do not feel pressured. It's better to think about it for a few days than to buy the wrong gown.
  6. Keep an open mind. Try on a range of different styles and do not discount something because you do not like how it looks on a hanger.

Lingerie Tips

Phone your dressmaker or designer before your first fitting and ask whether you should purchase your lingerie in advance. They will give you advice on styles and shapes, and even recommend retailers to visit for the best assistance.

Depending on the style of your gown, your dressmaker may be able to construct the bodice so that it's supportive enough to eliminate the need for a bra equivalent.

Test-drive any new items of lingerie before the wedding to make sure they are comfortable and stay put.
Listen to the experts. Your designer, dressmaker, gown retailer and lingerie fitter know what will look best. Take their advice into consideration.
