When you are choosing your wedding gown, you will want it to be beautiful, stylish, memorable, but above all, flattering. After all, the most gorgeous wedding dress in the world will not look good at all if it does not do your figure justice. A really pretty finishing touch is to pin a brooch that coordinates with your bridal jewelry at the point where the gathered fabric meets the skirt of the gown.
Certain tricks and effects will look terrific on taller brides or those with long torsos. A very fitted sash at the waist can be a great way to visibly nip in the waistline. Petite brides can mimic this effect with a one inch wide ribbon, but if you are longer through the middle, you can go for a much wider sash or cummberbund. A flat sash can even have a narrow ribbon layered over it right at the natural waist, which cuts a very slender silhouette. As an alternative to a ribbon, you can also try a row of crystals stitched over a seam at the natural waist, which is a fabulous accent to crystal bridal jewelry.
There are other tricks to make your waist appear slimmer in your bridal gown. Just as was the case with the diagonal shirring, anytime you can create a diagonal line it will help the area to appear more trim and streamlined. This is why a modest v-neck shape is ideal for large busted brides, and it is also why a basque (or slight v-shape) waistline is ideal for whittling away your waist. If you think about it, it makes perfect sense; we all know that putting a horizontal line across something makes it appear wider, so it is logical that lines that draw the eye in make the area appear narrower. Is not it nice when your gown can do all the work for you?
The final trick to making your wedding gown more waist flattering actually has to do with what you wear underneath it. A good bustier or slimming undergarment with a control top can really suck everything in and make you look absolutely fantastic. When choosing a stretchy control top undergarment, look for one that comes all the way up to under the bust to avoid the danger of having a bulge pushed up out of the top in a visible place (the dreaded "muffin top" effect).
