Wedding Dress Fabrics

[ad_1]

The shape, design and detailing on your gown are not the only things to take into consideration when you're looking for your perfect wedding dress. The fabric of your wedding dress also plays an important role when choosing the most special and often the most expensive dress of your life. Wedding gowns come in a wide range of fabrics including satin, silk, chiffon, taffeta, charmeuse, tulle and organza. Some dresses include polyester and cotton. Your choice of fabric needs to be comfortable yet needs to match the dress style that you have opted to wear too. Certain fabrics can add to the design of the dress whereas some can detract from it.

  • Satin – a popular fabric for wedding dresses. This luxury fabric with its smooth high shine works well with very structured designs. Satin can be very heavy therefore if you are having a summer wedding or getting married abroad in a hot climate this may not be well suited to you.
  • Silk – has natural imperfections and 'slubs' which make each dress slightly different and unique. if Available in raw or shantung as it is a natural texture it is the perfect fabric choice for a simpler dress style.
  • Chiffon – a pretty matt fabric that hangs and drapes beautifully. Fantastic for layering over fuller skirted styles to give a romantic edge. Alternately it can be used for sleeves, elaborate straps or as a wrap for you and your bridesmaids.
  • Taffeta – if you dream of having a large skirted gown or picture yourself in a wedding dress with a structured style then taffeta is a great fabric to consider. As this fabric is fairly stiff the overall shape is held well. It tends not to crease easily and can have a slight sheen or a dull finish to it.
  • Velvet – is available in a range of thicknesses and weights. This may be the choice or you if you're having a winter wedding for that extra added warmth
  • Crepe – another fabric that is great for fuller skirts especially if you are after a crinkled look.
  • Charmeuse – this is softer variation of satin. It can look very elegant and sophisticated while not being too heavy. It reflects highly in the light and drapes very well. drapes well and can look extremely elegant while not being overly heavy.
  • Organza – very similar to chiffon but stiffer. It has a real glistening shimmer to it. Again this looks amazing layered over skirts and ballet-dancer style bridesmaid dresses.
  • Tulle – this is the netting that can often be found underneath the skirt of a wedding dress to provide it with more fullness. It is also used to create princess style large skirted wedding dresses and can be found in tutus and veils.
