2008 Wedding Trends – Letterpress Invitations

[ad_1]

A wedding invitation is the earliest hint your guests will receive about your wedding. It sets the tone for your event. It gets guests enthused and makes them look forward to your big day. Letterpress invitations will be especially in vogue for 2008 weddings, with couples designing their own unique invitations and graphics.

Letterpress invitations are created just as the word suggests; each individual letter is put into place and then press into the paper. In modern letterpresses, the impressions are from metal typeset and custom engraved plates. The surfaces of these plates are inked and then press onto the paper to obtain a reverse image. Excellent letterpress work gives greater visual definition to the typeset and artwork. Wedding invitations made with letterpress are very unique works of art.

When designing your letterpress invitations keep in mind the colors used and the size of your graphics. To ensure your letterpress invitation is pristine, select one color for your typeset. Letterpress printing can only print one color at a time. Although printing multiple colors can be achieved it is challenging and should only be performed by a very experienced printer. The ink system for letterpress is less accurate than traditional printing, so detailed areas and small type may fill in with ink and lose their shape during the letterpress process.

Since letterpress invitations can be incredibly expensive, not every bride to be may be able to afford this wedding trend. However, there are affordable options. Consider purchasing an at home screen printing kit to achieve the same feel, or even an affordable letterpress at your local craft or hobby store. Another idea is to print your wedding text from your computer and accent each one with an art inspired rubber stamp. There are many rubber stamp artists who can create a stamp for you to use on your invitations and envelopes. Learning letterpress, screen printing, inking and embossing can be time consuming process so be sure to purchase extra ink and paper to practice on before beginning to print your final wedding invitations.
