September and October are becoming increasingly popular months for weddings, and that's no surprise. The weather in most parts of the country is usually dry and cool. Autumn weddings are not as likely to leave guests dodging raindrops or becoming hot and sticky in their formal clothing. Fall is a time of rich, warm hues and bounteous textures, and the choices are essentially endless – burgundy to red to orange to golden yellow with bases of ivory, tan and brown.
Some ideas for a fall wedding –
- Carve a hole in the top of mini-pumpkins to create festive votive candle holders.
- Centerpieces with horns of plenty
- For flower arrangements think mums, wheat stalks, twigs, and feathers (like pheasant feathers)
- Arrangements using short pieces of corn stalks, pods, and feathers
- Place corn stalk arrangements in corners, entrances, to cover pillows, etc.
- Hand-tied bouquets of mums encircled with wheat.
- Pumpkins – hollow, then punch (or drill) holes in sides (random, so the light shining through look like stars). These are really unique with a votive candle in them. Instead of cutting the top off, do the bottom – so the pumpkin sits over the candle instead of the candle sitting inside the pumpkin.
- Gourds / dried corn / acorns
- White or orange pumpkins
- Colorful fall Leaves (especially maple) scattered on the tables (either real or silk). If using real, they should be gathered the day of the wedding and never sealed in airtight bags (lest they might begin to mold).
- Baskets / wicker
- Apples and apple scents
- Raffia / straw / twigs
- Maple syrup / cinnamon scents, flavors
- Apple cider / pumpkin pie scents
- Pears
