When looking for just the right band for your dream wedding you will find two very different options. You will come across rosters of wedding bands offered and represented by corporate agencies. All the others you discover are independent local dance bands. The corporate bands are usually managed and booked by a large agency. Independent bands are managed and booked by individuals, such as the bandleader. These self-sufficient groups have certain advantages and disadvantages when compared to those represented by a corporate agency. Let's take a look …
Pros and Cons of an Agency
Pros:
– Larger variety of musical groups and musicians.
– Can provided a wider range of entertainment services.
Cons:
– Groups do not always play together and sometimes they will be "pick-up" bands.
– Operate in huge office buildings with high real estate fees and many employees which means higher prices for customers.
– There's a middle man, the agent, who makes it more difficult to communicate your requests with the musicians.
Pros & Cons of an Independent Band
Pros:
– The same group of musicians perform together and have been a band for years.
– Work out of small office or home which allows for better rates.
– Personal customer service because you speak and work directly with the bandleader. This allows the band to accommodate your needs more easily. When working directly with the band there's more flexibility for customization and better communication.
Cons
– There's only one band and if they are booked, they're booked and have no other groups to offer.
Hopefully these points will assist you in the search for the perfect band. Depending upon your event needs an independent band may be more suitable than an agency or vice versa.
Wishing you the best of luck.
