Edible wedding favors are always a favorite amongst brides and guests alike. But take them one step further by turning your culinary skills to making extra special favors which are tastefully different to the usual chocolates and cookies!
Flavored Oils – source some elegant looking bottle with secure tops, you will probably find them online through wholesalers. Fill with olive oil and add in some extras to create flavored cooking oils such as chilies, garlic or herbs. You then add a stylish folded swing tag with your thank you message.
Jars of fruits – these are the sort of thing you might see around at Christmas time, but they are a great gift at any time of the year and perfect as favors for any style of wedding. Again you will need to find some stylish jars to put them in. Look at peaches or pears soaked in liquor, or something something more such as lycees.
Conserves and Preserves – these are always a nice favor to give and very easy to make. Consider using seasonal fruits to tie in with your wedding day or otherwise use your favorite fruits to make your favors more personal. You can make preserves which are sweet or preserves which are usually a more savory accompaniment.
Herbs and Spices – make up your own versions of classic spice or herb mixes. These could include Indian spices, Mexican rubs, meat rubs and bouquet garni. Mulled wine spice saches are a great idea for a fall or festive wedding, along with combinations of spices used for Christmas favorites such as puddings and mincemeat. Present them in stylish aluminum tins with a personalized label on the top.
Seasonings – following on from the above you could give your guests jars or sellers of salt and pepper. I do not mean ordinary table salt or black peppercorns, but mixes of sea salts or rock salt and exotic mixes of colored peppercorns in a handy pepper mill.
Sweet Treats – if you have a sweet tooth yourself then treat your guests to wedding favors containing some of your favorite homemade confectionery. Include things like rocky road, fudge, hokey-pokey or bonfire toffee and homemade cookies.
Cooking Sauces – there is many an old family recipe for a special secret cooking sauce. Something added to stews or casseroles, rubbed on to chicken or steak or as an accompaniment to a meat dish. So treat your guests to some of this magic sauce and leave them guessing as to what the ingredients are! Do warn them though if it is particularly hot and spicy!
