Getting around on your wedding day can be a hassle. Who wants to drive themselves to the church and the reception? One good alternative to doing that is hiring a limousine service to get you to the church on time, and in style.
Just as your choice of florist and caterer are important, so is the decision of which limousine service to use. Not just the type of limo, but the company needs to be a good fit. The old adage "you get what you pay for" is especially fitting when hiring a limo company.
When to Contract
Just like any other service for your wedding, you should choose and contract for your limousine service at least nine months in advance. Make sure you sign a written contract spelling out all the things you will receive, as well as the costs. Also ask what happens if the limo gets lost, breaks down, or does not show up on time. Get any price breaks for that in writing as well. And be sure you understand the costs to cancel the service, should the unthinkable happen.
You will be asked for a deposit or credit card to hold your date and time. Check with the company at least three or four days before your wedding date to be sure everything is still on track for your big day.
Choices of Ride
You can find almost any kind of limousine service out there from standard limos to horse drawn carriages. You will need to decide which kind of limo you would like, and can afford.
Number of Limos Needed
Depending on your budget, you can rent a limo for just you and your new spouse, or you want rent one for the wedding party. Many limousine services have wedding packages that will give you multiple vehicles to transport the wedding party to the reception.
Questions to Ask
When hiring a limo service there are some things you should ask before signing on the dotted line.
1. How will my driver be dressed? You really want a driver who looks professional for your wedding. A suit or tuxedo is preferred, not jeans and a t-shirt.
2. Will the driver's tip be included in the bill? If you have to give the driver the tip on the scene it is best to know before he / she picks you up. Most bridal parties do not carry a lot of cash to their own weddings.
3. What year and model of car will it be? Make sure this is listed on the contract, along with any acceptable substitutions. Surprises are nice when it comes to gifts, but not so nice when it comes to the kind of limousine you are getting.
4. Make sure the limo you are renting is big enough for your party. Remember, people in formal wear require more space then in regular clothing. If you have 8 people in your party, an 8 person limo might not be big enough. When you are not sure, go with the next size up.
5. May I see your operator's license and permits? You want a company that can legally operate in your area. The last thing a bride and groom need is to be pushed over by the police because the limo driver does not have the proper papers. Not only is that time consuming, but it could leave you stranded if the limo is impounded!
Saving Money
If money is tight consider cutting back on some of the perks that come with a limo. Do you really need to have champagne on the way to the reception? Check if the company you want to hire has a wedding package, or some, then pick the one that gives you what you want at the best price.
A Final Word on Saving Money
Weddings are expensive. There are plenty of places to cut costs, but the limousine service is not one of them. Going with the cheapest company may sound like a good idea, but you might trade the cost saving for service. Late limousine, inferior or faulty vehicle, and an inexperienced driver can all cost a lot more than you can save by going with a second rate limousine company.
Weddings should be magical moments in a person's life. The bride and groom should feel like there is no one else in the world but them. Having the right companies taking care of their needs is the best way to make sure their wedding will be one to remember.
