Martha Stewart was born on August third in the year of nineteen forty one in New Jersey. She was the first daughter of her parents, Eddie and Martha Kostyra. The family she was born into was a large middle class family that was of Polish heritage. She has an older brother and four other siblings besides him.

When Martha was three years old, her family bought a house in Nutley, New Jersey, and it was a very busy house. There were six children and Martha's mother cooked, made clothing for the family, and other motherly duties. Martha's mother saved money by making her children clothing instead of going out and buying it. Both of her parents believed in strong work ethics.

As Martha grew up, her mother taught her how to cook. Christmas always entailed a large celebration and Martha helped her mother cook for everyone at these times of the years.

Martha was also schooled in the art of cannning and preservation by her grandparents who lived in Buffalo, New York. She often sent summers there when she was a child. The skills that she picked up in her early years proved to be quite important to her in later life. Her father loved to be the gardener that he was. He also shared these skills with Martha over the years. Martha and her father loved to work together in the garden and in the yard.

Martha went to the schools in Nutley, New Jersey all the way to college. Martha was a top notch student. This was a woman who loved to read and really enjoyed her time in school. She also participated in extracurricular activities.

During her years in high school, Martha went to New York to try to acquire modeling jobs. She did eventually get hired for a couple of jobs. She was in a television commercial and also in several magazines. She still attended high school through all this and maintained her grades. She graduated in the top ten of her class and went on to Barnard College in New York City.

She continued her modeling career while in college and met her husband as well through all this. Her husband Andy Stewart also attended Barnard College. She married her husband in nineteen sixty one and her mother made her wedding dress.

For many years Martha and her husband moved about to different places. In nineteen eighty two she was first published. It was book about catering and became a best seller. Eight years later in nineteen ninety her dream of being on television came true with the show "Martha Stewart Living".
