How to Get Around And Use Your Wedding Dress

[ad_1]

It is astonishing how heavy a wedding dress is, especially if it is long and has yards of material. You may find you can not dance, or even walk comfortably, in it. You will simply have to practice, preferably with your bridesmaid or your mother helping you until you can walk and dance naturally. You will also have to practice getting into your gown so you do not get it dirty or tear it.

Here's how to do that: First, put a clean towel on the floor. Then place your shoes on the towel. Then, with a helper, step into your shoes. Have the helper place the gown over your head. It does not topple you over, you're well on your way. Be sure to place a scarf over your head so you do not smear makeup on your gown.

An alternate method is to step into your gown, have your helper zipper or button you up, and put your shoes on last.

A nightmare for the bride-to-be is if she has to go to the bathroom before the wedding ceremony. Trying to fit into a small bathroom stall in a voluminous gown and not get anything wet or dirty is an almost impossible task. Brides have been known to dump the flowers out of a large pot and then hunch over that pot to urinate. Modesty takes the back door when it comes to the private needs of a bride on her wedding day. Fortunately, most wedding halls have large rooms for the bride and groom to use on their wedding day, so it may not be a problem at all.

After what hopefully is a perfect day, you want to store your gown safely, as a memento of the occasion. Hanging it away in the closet is not recommended because daylight / sunlight can ruin the gown over time. First and foremost, you must have it cleaned immediately. The label on the dress should tell you whether to dry clean or wash, and give washing instructions. This should take care of any stains on the dress, which can become permanent if not cleaned right away. This would include not only food and wine, but perspiration stains and oils from your skin.

The ideal way to store a wedding dress is in a cardboard box made of acid-free paper. Your dry cleaner may have such a box for you or try online. Again, use acid-free paper to wrap the gown in the box, being sure to place the paper between the folds of the dress. Starting at the hem, fold it up, place the special acid-free paper inside the fold, then fold it again, add more paper in the fold, and so on until the bodice. Do not forget to stuff the paper inside the sleeves of the dress. Use more paper in between the sleeves and the gown. Do not forget to add more paper on top of the dress before covering with the top of the box. Store the box on a dark, dry shelf. It should now be ready for your next wedding, God forbid, or your daughter's wedding.
