Wedding favors have been a traditional part of weddings for many centuries and have their origins back in the 13th century. Although the first wedding favors consist of sugar cubes, once a rare commodity only afforded by the rich, today's wedding favors are rather more elaborate and sophisticated by comparison!
Whilst sugar cubes may longer be the favor of choice, their successor, almonds, are still a common sight at traditional weddings. Almonds can be bought with a sugar or candy coating and should be given in threes or fives signifying health, wealth, happiness, fertility and longevity.
Almonds are not to everyone's taste thought so almond shaped, candy coated chocolates have become a more popular choice. Known as chocolate dragees these can be bought in many colors including ever popular pink or white and even metallic shades such as gold and silver.
Another popular favor is candles. Candles seem to entrenched in weddings and they make a nice gift whatever the occasion, they are also cheap to purchase and readily available. Favorite candles include tea lights and votives and may include a pretty decorative holder. Scented candles are a nice idea and can be a good choice to fit with a particular wedding theme.
Cookies have become the most popular wedding favors in recent times because of the versatility they present in terms of shape, design, flavor and decoration. Whilst cookies can be baked at home, there is a growing trend for custom cookies which are made by bakers and iced according to the bride's wishes. Cookies make a wonderful choice as wedding favors because they are simple and can be coordinated to any wedding theme or style, be it formal or informal, traditional or contemporary.
Candies make for the cheapest option when it comes to wedding favors and one of the easiest to package. Easily bought in bulk quantities and available in a range of colors and flavors candies offer much flexibility for coordinating favors to a particular wedding style or theme. In recent years, the candy bar – a kind of buffet station set up with a range of different candies, has become a popular addition to wedding receptions. Guests can simply help themselves by virtue of supplied scoops and bags to their own wedding favors.
Mini cakes represent an expensive option in terms of wedding favors but become a more affordable choice when doubled up as wedding cake too. Mini cakes, like cookies, come in a range of shapes and sizes, flavors and decorations making them popular for many different types of wedding. However, their high price – around $ 8 each, makes them a more popular choice for brides with big budgets!
