Preparing for a Wedding? Have You Completed Your Plastic Surgery Yet?

[ad_1]

As I spent my entire day getting my hair twisted on Wednesday, I had the extreme pleasure of watching the entire season of, "Bridalplasty" on Netflix. I know that I am about two years late, but I had to comment on this! As I was watching, I had to pinch myself because I could not believe this was real life. I never knew that preparing for a wedding included cosmetic surgery! I tell myself every week that I am going to stop watching reality TV.

I have yet to start preparing for a wedding, as I am not engaged. However, when I do, my checklist would look something like this:

  • Dress
  • Venue
  • Flowers
  • Cake
  • Food

When you are a Bridalplasty bride, this is how you are preparing for a wedding:

  • Veneers
  • Liposuction
  • Nose Job
  • Breast Augmentation

Preparing for a Wedding on Bridalplasty

E! featured the show Bridalplasty, where 12 women who are preparing for a wedding move into a house to compete for a chance to win their dream wedding. The basis of the show is that these women think they need plastic surgery in order to become the "perfect bride." Over the course of the four months, these women compete against one another on various wedding components, ie putting together a flower arrangement, finding a dress that compliments your size, etc. Whenever a contantant wins a challenge, she gets to have a procedure from her wish list. If you are one of the lower competitors, then you get voted off. Shanna Moakler, a former Playmate, Miss USA and rock star wife (Travis Barker) hosts the show.

Why Bridalplasty Ruined the Joy of Reality TV for Me

What really bothered me about this show was the elimination send-off. When the contestants get voted off, Shanna says to them, "I'm sorry X, you're no longer in the running to become the perfect bride.

HUH ?!

Let me get this straight. My wedding will not be perfect because I did not get cosmetic surgery and I do not have all the celebrity extras? What happened to the fun side of preparing for a wedding? I thought preparing for a wedding was supposed to be a special event that you share with your close family and friends. I thought the wedding ceremony was supposed to be about showing the bride and groom's style, not what Angelina Jolie what have done.

Through the season, the women continue preparing for a wedding of their dreams, getting chopped and screwed and conniving their way to the top. The dominating personalities prey on the women with low self-esteem. The show portraits one character as "The Godfather", who plots and plans all the eliminations.

On the Bright Side …

The story had a happy, fairy tale ending; the whole Cinderella story. To keep it brief, once upon a time there was this woman named Allyson. She came into the house with low self-esteem, overweight, and broke. She should have been preparing for financial recovery and not preparing for a wedding, but let's just go on with the story. Through the encouragement of her competitors / housemates, she started to think more positive. She started kicking butt in the competition, won a few surgeries and went on to beat her arch-nemesis in the finale to become the "perfect bride." Break out the tissue! I did like that Allyson's self-esteem improved and she learned how to improve her health. Although, if I was Alllyson, I would have cashed in all the stuff I won and gotten my life together instead of the "celebrity style" wedding in the end.

Preparing for a wedding is a special time in a woman's life. Some women take it too far and forget what it is really about. Women should look at the fact that they have an opportunity to get married.

Bridalplasty tops my list for "When Reality TV Goes Wrong." When will the insanity end?

I'm headed for the top, I hope you're coming!
