Wedding favors were traditionally little gifts of almonds or sugar cubes presented in small decorative boxes to the wedding guests, in a tradition which goes back centuries. However, in the modern world, wedding favors are now so much more than a few confectionery trees in a box.
For many brides choosing wedding favors can present more of a headache then choosing her wedding dress or deciding on the perfect venue. Such is the range of choice available deciding which would be the perfect one for your guests can leave your head spinning!
But when it comes to finding suitable favors there are a few key points to follow which make the ingredients needed for successful wedding favors:
Style:
Firstly you need to consider the style of your wedding. Is it formal, traditional or casual? Is it a religious ceremony or a civil one? Will you be following any particular traditions sometimes cultural or ethnic?
Theme:
Are you having a wedding theme? How much do you know about your chosen theme? Is it centered on a shared hobby or interest or is your theme taken from an historical period, such as medieval, renaissance or early 20th century. Do you need to do some research on traditions, practices or maybe on things / items that are particular to the theme?
Colors:
Take into account the colors you have chosen for your wedding. These will be present in things such as your flowers, table centers, wedding cake, stationery and reception decorations. If your favors do not match these colors then they will stick out and look awkward.
Personality:
Consider your personalities (you and your Hubby2b). Do you have common interests or hobbies? Do you share a love of music, poetry or movies? Try to incorporate something or yourself into your favors, it helps to make them even more special and gives them a unique touch.
Would you like it:
Truly successful wedding favors are things that the bride would like to receive herself. Consider if a spotted candle is something that you would appreciate or would you feel somewhat disappointed when you opened the box? You may want to consider favors that are useful, decorative or novel, either way you should think less about what your guests would like and more about what you would like.
Be original:
This sounds tricky but really it means not being temped to copy the favors your friend cave out at her wedding just a couple of months earlier. Chances are you will be inviting the same guests who may consider a second dose of these favors with disdain (except of course your friend's favors where that special they are thrilled to be receiving them again!)
Wedding favors can seem a difficult choice at first but if you follow the above you will soon narrow the choice and make your decision a whole lot easier!
