Top Five Reasons Why Wedding Etiquette is Important

[ad_1]

Have you ever been to a wedding where there was an awkward drunk relative at the reception? Or maybe you've attended a wedding where a guest wore a dress that was too revealing.

Weddings have unspoken rules, or etiquette , that most people know of. It's those few people that do not know it that ruin it for everyone else. Here are the top five reasons why etiquette is an important part of every wedding:

1. Without wedding etiquette, weddings would be downright offensive

Think about it: proper etiquette does not allow for that revealing dress or obnoxious behavior. A wedding is a sacred, special event for the couple and it's the unspoken rules that make the event that much more important. Without these rules, weddings would be offensive to many.

2. Wedding etiquette helps the actual event flow smoothly

Etiquette creates an atmosphere of order and ritual; without it things simply would not happen. For example, the newlywed couple is usually the first to eat food during the reception. If they had to "jump in line" with everyone else, they would have to scramble to eat their food quickly in order to get out to the dance floor for that important first dance.

3. Etiquette sets the stage for a great event

Even before the wedding event, invitation cards help set the stage for that special day. Invitations are not included to include gift registry information. Rather, that is supposedly to be spread by word of mouth through friends and family. Doing it the right way will create a wonderful experience for the couple and for the guests.

4. Wedding etiquette gets rid of the awkwardness

In a perfect world, guests and the couple would know everything about wedding etiquette. They do not. However, even a basic statute of unspoken rules will help eliminate blind situations. A couple should realize who pays for what in a wedding and guests should know proper wedding attire. Emily Post writes an excellent book (geared more towards the couple) called Emily Post's Wedding Etiquette that helps explain some of these questions.
