To ensure travelers security, all luggage must be checked by the Transport Security Officer before taking a flight. This is done to protect travelers from terrorism. Packing for airline travel requires proper planning and consideration. If you are confused about what to pack or leave, the following tips will actually set you free. Some personal items permitted for hand luggage include cell phones, laptop computers and cameras. All medication should have prescriptions with the name on the label matching that on your ticket. If you are a mother traveling with a little baby, you are permitted to carry baby formula. Non-prescription medication is allowed if the drugs are in their original containers.
If you are asthmatic or have breathing difficulties, you are permitted to carry your inhaler although you will have to be screened at the checkpoint. Special items such as crutches, communication devices and walkers are also allowed. Containers carrying life-sustaining items and battery-powered medical equipment such as personal oxygen concentrators are also allowed. Other special items include syringes for personal medical use. However, you will be required to pay an extra fee if you exceed the luggage allowance. It is therefore very important to pack light and correctly. Liquid and gel items are also permitted but each container should not weigh over 3 oz.
Restrictions regarding carry on luggage weight vary with each airline. For instance, American Airline limit for luggage weight is 40 pounds while that of US Airways is 50 pounds. As for the ladies you are permitted to carry solid cosmetics and other personal care items such as lipstick, lip balm and body oil. Other special items such as pets, musical instruments, car seats, strollers and wedding dresses are also allowed on board. However, you should consult your airline transport security administration before your travel. Sporting goods allowed in checked luggage include pool cues, spear guns, ski poles, golf clubs, hockey sticks, cricket bats, lacrosse sticks, baseball bats, bows and arrows.
It is important to note that all electronic devices that can interfere with communication equipment are prohibited. These include radio transmitters, laser pointers, blue tooth headsets, wireless mouse, radio controlled equipment, computer and printer peripheral devices. Other prohibited items include fire arms, guns, explosive and flammable materials and all disabling chemicals. It is your responsibility to make sure that all sharp objects (scissors, box cutters, razor blades) in checked baggage are well wrapped to prevent injury to baggage inspectors and handlers. Bear in mind that happiness is part of travel therefore, follow the regulations by ensuring you have checked and carried all your valuables.
