Victorian Wedding Favors

[ad_1]

The Victorians were hopeless romantics and as such the era makes for a popular wedding theme. So when it comes to choosing wedding favors with a Victorian influence there is much to choose from! Here are a few ideas:

The ‘tussie mussie’ is a small floral posy made with flowers and herbs to create a fragrant arrangement. They are often presented with a lace collar or one made from a paper doilie! They make lovely favors for your female guests and if you use dried flowers and herbs they will be long lasting too.

The Victorians are accredited with creating the language of flowers, giving each one special meaning and symbolism. Using a list of these meanings you could create ‘tussie mussies’ with a special message contained within – for instance a posy of acacia symbolizes friendship, whilst snowdrops and jonquil show affection and continued friendship.

Staying with the floral theme, silver bud vases are widely available from favor stores and make a decorative and unobtrusive favor. Give these as one between couples and one to each single guest.

Look out for beautiful lace cut favor boxes in the favor stores. These intricate designed boxes are perfect for filling with your favorite candies, chocolates or even mini cookies. Finish them with some pretty ribbon and your thank you tag.

Add some luxury to your favors by presenting luxury chocolate truffles on a silver dish with a lace doilie underneath. The silver dishes are not really silver but silver colored plastic in a fancy scroll design!

Pay homage to the Victorian rhyme: ‘something borrowed, something blue, something old, something new, and a sixpence for my shoe’ by giving your guests a silver sixpence each. Although these were UK coins they are widely available across the internet as they have become traditional to place in Christmas puddings!

The Victorians were very fond of lavender so create your own scented sachets filled with lavender seeds for a fragrant type of favor. You can easily make these at home and to keep with the theme you can make them with lace or satin edged with lace. Choose heart shaped sachets to really keep with the romance of the theme and if you’re particularly adept at needlework why not embroider your names and wedding date in cross stitch on the front. Don’t forget to add a ribbon loop so it can be hung up.
