As well as being one of the best and most memorable days of your life, a wedding can also be stressful. One of the main causes of stress is the cost. The costs in a modern wedding can quickly spiral out of control so below I've given a few tips on who traditionally pays for what on your big day. Its important to remember that this is not set in stone and nowdays the whole wedding is often paid for by the bride and groom themselves but traditionally the costs were spread as follows:
-Brides family:
All reception costs including venue hire, food, drinks, music.
Newspaper announcements.
Music for the ceremony.
Photographer and prints.
Wedding stationary.
Brides dress and accessories. Veil, wedding fascinator.
Transportation and parking expenses.
Bridesmaids bouquet and flowers.
-Grooms family:
Marriage license.
Groomsmen gifts.
Brides bouquet and corsage.
Corsages for mothers and grandsmothers.
Rehearsal dinner.
All honeymoon costs.
-Bride:
Hen party.
Grooms wedding ring and gift.
-Groom:
Suit hire.
Stag party.
Brides engagement ring and wedding ring.
Brides gift.
The bride and groom also pay for any gifts for the brides parents.
It is also important to remember that nowdays a wedding is not always a traditional affair and more couples are choosing to be married abroad to cut the costs of a large wedding and due to personal preference. In this case it is important to sit down with each family and decide how costs are to be split. If you're really against the idea of a big wedding you could always elope to Gretna Green and save yourself a fortune but wheres the fun in that 🙂
