Wedding Themes
Creating a suitable theme for your wedding is vital if you want to create a feeling of unity and cohesion. If there are no criteria to work to you may find everything becomes muddled and confusing, adding to an already stressful time of planning and preparation.
Wedding themes do not have to be so specific that they are limiting. The simplest bridal theme could be a color combination where everything is color coded to match precisely. Or a more daring and challenging wedding theme would be to work around a favorite stage production such as Wicked or favorite film such as Casablanca. You may be fond of a particular era and want to theme your wedding around that. For example the 1950's was a time of sophistication with crisp, fresh structures and shorter hem lines, while the 1960's saw an increase in fun and flirtatious fashion, specifically the mini skirt, although the majority of wedding dresses in the 1960's was once again long.
Once you have chosen a wedding theme it is a good idea to record your ideas somewhere. This bridal record will help to keep you focused and on track during the planning stage and can be as simple as a few notes in your diary, a mood board, or a full and detailed filing system with samples, swatches, suppliers and ideas. It also helps, no matter what size the wedding, to carry color swatches with you just in case you need to match something when you are out.
Now you have your theme and have recorded some of your ideas you need to find people who can help you to create these ideas, and the first stop for shopping, after the venue of course, is the wedding dress shop. The wedding dress does tend to be the main focus of a wedding and generally speaking wedding guests are keen to see the dress first, followed by the flowers. So you have a lot to live up to when you arrive!
Once you have the wedding dress and wedding accessories that match your theme, you can now add more bridal accessories; shoes, jewelery, hair style, make up, tiara etc. This should be a fun time but you do need to remain realistic as to what is possible and take advice from your chosen suppliers. They are after all the professionals.
Many of the suppliers you encounter will often be able to provide a bespoke or design service to create something unique and specific for you. This is ideal if your theme is quite different and you are struggling to find things off the peg. Ask suppliers whether or not this is something they can do. And do not forget, if one supplier can not provide something you want it is always a good idea to shop around to see if someone else can.
With each purchase or decision, it is a good idea to check that it works with your theme. When shopping it is very easy to get carried away because you like something, but that something may not work on this occasion.
Above all, stay focused and keep to your theme.
