Why You Should Have Wedding Favors

[ad_1]

Wedding favors have been a traditional part of weddings for many centuries. The tradition of giving guests a small token of thanks began with European aristocracy back in the 13th century, when guests would receive a small decorative box filled with sugar cube (a scarce commodity, only afforded by the rich back then).

In later times sugar cubes where replaced with sugared or Jordan almonds. These were given in numbers of either five or three, with each almond representing health, wealth, happiness, longevity and fertility. At this time they were know as bonbonierre, the Italian word for confetti.

Today wedding favors are a million dollar industry with the major of sellers selling their wares online. The choice of favors has never been so great with items ranging from candles to mini photo frames, saches of tea or coffee and custom cookies and chocolates.

When a tradition such as this goes back so far in history, you can be sure that a large number of your guests will expect them and as a token of thanks from yourselves they are important. Many of you may ask why you should bother, after all you will be sending out thank you cards after the wedding, so do you really need to say it twice?

The simple answer is – yes, you do. Traditionally you would only send out thank you cards to those guests who have given you a wedding gift, although many couples will extend this to those who did not give a gift and those who could not make it, but sent good wishes.

Wedding favors also provide the finishing touches to your reception tables helping to coordinate and unify all those little details you have so painstakingly chosen. Favors should also be a reflection of your own personalities and tastes, as well as a reflection of your wedding style and / or theme. Your choice of favor along with the packaging and presentation is what helps to make them unique to your wedding and for some guests, a special keepsake of your day.

Providing benefits can also be a good way of getting your tables talking and for creating an atmosphere and ambiance around the room. Not giving them could create the atmosphere you least want – silence! There is also a case that many of your guests will welcome a small sugary treat once they arrive at the reception having sat through your ceremony, some of which can go one for a long time! It is amazing what a glass of champagne and a handful of chocolates will do for your guests' mood!
