Have you ever planned a wedding? I have. When I say I have planned a wedding, I do not mean that I spend $ 6,000 hiring a professional event planner to guide me through the process and make all the phone calls, arrangements and negotiating the pricing. I mean I made a list of what I wanted included in the event, I made a guest list to try to estimate an approximate headcount, I looked at dozens of chapters in an effort to make sure I would choose the perfect location, I sampled several caterers offerings to choose the ideal menu for the reception, I looked at and tasted lots of wedding cakes so I could have both the perfect look and dessert taste following my reception dinner.
And of course in addition to these tasks, I spent hundreds of hours doing all of the little, time consuming tasks that could easily be forgotten and you wish were outsourced. So how, you may ask ask I manage to keep all of the cogs in place and turning smoothly in this massive event machine? That answer is simple.
Before I ever began this overwhelming undertaking, I scoured the internet for assistance in the form of a printable wedding planner or wedding planning software. Of course I was immediately bombarded with websites offering 'free' advice and planning assistance, but most upon further investigation, most were little more than e-mail address database gathering stations in disguise. Shortly after signing up, my inbox was blasted with dozens of vendor advertising which was incredibly annoying and of little use.
However, there was also a bright side. I came across two great examples of what wedding planning software should be. One was a windows based software package that was simple, straight-forward and functional and cost about forty dollars. The other package I was impressed with was an excel-based package that was less sophisticated, but even functional with some nice touches that I had not seen before. In addition to these features, this package came with a price tag that was less than half the other.
So the point of this story is that if you want to plan the perfect wedding without spending a third of your budget paying someone to do it for you, there are great options. And speaking as someone who managed to complete this process without paying someone to do it for me, I can attest that this is a reward option.
