Honeymoon Budgeting Tips

[ad_1]

Your considerations for planning a memorable honeymoon are many.

First, consider your destination. Your locales and other details should be planned with your budget in mind. If you are working on a smaller budget, your honeymoon stays should be closer to home. Including a money tree at your reception is a good way to help your honeymoon budget. Another helpful tradition is to have wedding guests pay to dance with the bride. Whatever the size of your budget, choose several locales which you might like to include in your honeymoon plans, and settle on the ones which have enjoyable activities, entertainment, special restaurants and other features nearby. Consider whether you would like domestic or international travel, urban destinies or coastal ones; rural or secluded ones; mountain locations, wherever you would like to visit familiar favorite spots or new getaways, and agree on a list of destinations. Can you travel by plane, car, train or cruise ship? The top honeymoon destinations are: Mexico, Hawaii, Jamaica, Disney World, and cruises aboard ship.

Once you have your locations in mind, research the costs associated with each, looking for promotions, discounts and special deals. These can be found through travel club memberships, web sites specializing in travel bargains, through car rental agencies, travel agencies and other sources. You will probably not need to rely on a travel agent if you have settled on many of your travel details in advance, especially if you are not traveling extensively. If you are planning a fall or winter wedding, you can take advantage of off-season rates for your honeymoon.

Another question to consider in honeymoon planning is, When should we take our honeymoon? Right away? After a week, or a month? Consider your work schedules and other obligations around the time of your wedding and plan a time that is convenient. If you would like some time to get settled into your new home after the wedding, you can plan to travel after some time has passed.

Plans for the food you will enjoy in your travels is important. If money is a main factor, you may wish to self-prepare coffee, snacks and some simple meals so that you can have more money to spend on some special meals out. My husband and I chose three fairly simple accommodations for our honeymoon and splurged on one extra beautiful hotel in Santa Barbara as we traveled up the California coast. Most of our meals were at reasonably priced restaurants, but we chose a ritzy Italian restaurant for our first night out. In this way, we had a wonderful time without overspending.

As you plan the various aspects of your travels and list your expenses, make one column for essentials and another for wishes and wishes. If your budget allows, plan for some extra-special arrangements along the way.
