How to plan a wedding? A checklist, the first 12 things you should do once he's popped the question.
1. Hire a Wedding Planner.
85% of Wedding Couples feel a Wedding Coordinator is a luxury they can not afford.
But, a good Planner makes it her job to keep the bride within her budget. No planner wants a reputation of taking a bride outside of budget on her special day. A good one will work very hard to stay under budget providing the bride with savings without compromising quality and style.
2. Determine Your Budget
At two months prior to most Weddings the budget is already blown and the scrambling and compromising begins. Honeymoons get cut, or cut short. Major loans are taken out saddling the happy couple with serious debt going into married life. Services and quality get cut. It can turn a Dream into a Nightmare Wedding.
Take steps early to come up with a realistic budget.
3. Meet with parents
Who is paying for your Wedding Dream Day? Nowadays about 70% of couples pay a significant portion, if not all, of the wedding costs themselves. However, parents traditionally host & pay for the Wedding, so it would be well to break down your budget to determine who pays for what.
4. Pick a date
The Season, day of the week, and time of day all affect your budget. Have back-up dates and times in mind.
5. Reserve the ceremony and reception locations
Reserve early! Spend some quiet-time walking in your locations, envisioning your Dream Day.
6. Select your wedding party
Keep budget in mind. A smaller Wedding Party can be a cost savings.
7. Meet with minister, rabbi, priest, or other officiant.
Your officiant can be a great resource for how to plan a wedding ceremony with checklist and experience prepared over time. Be prepared for your officiant to have some conditions such as pre-maritime counseling or specific forms or behavior during your Ceremony.
8. Choose a color, theme and style.
Formal or unusual, your Wedding Dream is limited only by your imagination and tastes.
9. Begin guest list
Do this early as it affects budget. It may take some time to work with parents on this.
10. Select a wedding dress, mother's dresses and bridesmaid dresses
As you plan the wedding attire, use a checklist to keep track of sizes, styles, and vendors.
11. Start Planning for Honeymoon
A good travel agent can steer you towards Honeymoon packages to fit your budget. Your Wedding Planner may have some connections there.
12. Determine in what areas you will NOT cut costs to save money.
This is your Wedding Dream Day. There are just some things that you will not do without. Be flexible on the rest.
This has been part one, an overview of my 12-part series that examines each of the steps above, the first things to do once you are engaged; your how to plan a wedding checklist.
