I bidder on, you bidder on $ 30, now $ 40 … going once … going twice … sold!
I'll never forget my first foray into auctions. Honestly, I had very little experience in this niche market of event planning. But I dove head first into making the art for Africa event I was hosting a great one – complete with African drummers and dancers!
I worked with artists from the US and Canada who donated their artwork, coordinated the entire event and auction and made sure the presentation the night of the event made people want to bid on every work of art so we could raise money to send Bella, a 15yr old girl I met in Rwanda, to school.
How To Plan A Successful Auction
The event planning industry is very diverse and there are so many aspects of it to explore. It's so easy to start your business and try to be everything to everyone but, for longer-term success, think about what makes you different and specialize in it. This is one of the best ways to maximize your business potential and earnings. Simply, find your niche.
How Do You Determine Your Specialty?
Your niche should be the one aspect of event planning you excel in. It may be wedding planning, corporate events or planning a successful auction. It should also be something that you love to do. When you're following your passion and love what you do, it will not even seem like work.
First determine what your specialty is, then look at the demand for it in your area. Remember that when you find your niche, you want to be the go-to person for it. Your area of expertise has to be something that you love and are extremely good at.
Look at the ways you can maximize this aspect of your business. Fine tune it and be consistent. You'll find that consistency will help you continue to be -THE ONE- to call for this type of event.
There are so many areas of event planning that you can specialize in too. Once you determine what your niche is, look for the ways you can network and expand your business potential. Of course, the best way to gain new clients is to maintain that consistency at each event that you plan.
It also makes your life much easier to have a formula in place for yourself and your team. Following a model that's been successful for you time and time again means you can basically create a template, of sorts, and fill in the blanks with each client's needs.
Regardless of the niche you decide to specialize in, the end result of your efforts makes a huge impact on the organization or person hosting the event. And when you love what you do, it will shine through, which makes it great that you're happy while getting to help others at the same time.
Once you find your niche, you will be in demand and you can make a name for yourself as the # 1 person to call for that type of event. In the end, your event planning business will soar to new heights and so will your income.
