How to Use a Wedding Planning Checklist

Planning a wedding is a wonderful task even for the most organized of couples so it makes sense to use any tools which are at your disposal. A wedding planning checklist will help you to keep track of everything that needs to be done to make your wedding day a success and when you need to do it.

You can get a wedding planning checklist free from most wedding related websites and bridal magazines often carrying a version in each issue. Find one which you feel suits you best and is in a format with which you can work. A checklist which has a handy budget planner attached is also a bonus.

Most checklists are generic to the average style of wedding and as such may need to be edited to suit your particular wedding. If you can find one that allows you to edit it on your computer through word or excel then use it as it will make your life easier. Your other option is to scan or copy one onto your computer so you can edit it. Read through it first and then take out anything which does not fit with your wedding plans.

Most weddings are planned within an 18 month timeframe, though some couples choose just 12 months and others will do it in less time than this. It is likely that any free wedding planning checklist will be based on an 18 or 12 month wedding planning period so again you will need to adjust these dates to fit with the amount of time you have allocated to plan your wedding in.

Once your checklist is edited and formatted to your liking, print out several copies. Keep one with your wedding planning notes, put one on your noticeboard if you have one, give one to your groom and one to your maid of honor. Both sets of parents may like to have a copy too so they can keep track of what is happening. Transfer any key dates onto a calendar so you have a second reference should you need one. It can also be a good idea to keep a copy of the checklist on your computer with the tasks ticked of or measured through; just in case you loose your other copy.

As you progress through your wedding planning be sure to refer to the checklist regularly so you know what is coming up and what needs to be done at that moment in time. As each task is completed tick it off as done. Using your main wedding planning checklist, you can write more detailed task lists on a weekly or daily basis which will include any appointments, paperwork which needs to be done and any shopping you need to conclude.
