Is it Necessary to Engage the Service of a Wedding Planner?

[ad_1]

I often hear people ask, "Is it necessary to engage the service of a wedding planner?" As a bride-to-be myself, I have asked that question too. After serious consideration and going through online research, I finally decided to hire one for the full planning and coordination for my wedding. I hope to share my experience here and help fellow bride-to-be make an informed decision.

As with engaging the service of all other professionals, the price tag a wedding planner does not come cheap. Typically, the fee for a full wedding planning package in Singapore is about $ 5,000 (Singapore dollars). Frankly, I do not think it is necessary to engage a wedding planner as many people are managing fine without one. However, I am glad I did.

Having a wedding planner really helps me to save the time in doing research as well as avoiding the trouble of contacting many hotels, restaurants, bridal studios, florists, photographers … and negotiating with each and every of them to get the best deals. This is what I appreciate most so far. I believe if we were to do it on our own, we will not be able to confirm our banquet venue so fast (that is, 3 weeks after we decided to get married). Although we are not in a hurry, it is certainly a good relief to know that everything is in order. Also, with our planner fighting for our benefits during the negotiating process, we managed to secure more perks than the usual wedding package offered by the hotel.

In addition, she provides useful tips and advice to help us with our decisions. For example, should we have separate days for solemnization and custom wedding? How to choose the wedding date? Which hotels or restaurants to consider given on our budget and their availability? Other useful advice include details such as, invitation of Justice of Peace to solemnise our wedding, venue decoration, preparing personal vows, and other logistics issues.

If you intend to hire a wedding planner, do look out for discounts or promotions. For example, the package I signed up comes with a free wedding engagement (or Registration of Marriage, ROM) planning worth $ 800. My wedding planner even offers to help my husband-to-be plan a marriage proposal for free (but he was too shy to agree to it … Ha!)
