Marketers know that the way you increase sales is to create interest. Event planning is no different, especially in a difficult economy. Whether you are throwing a party, a wedding or a fundraiser there needs to be built up anticipation for the event. How can you do that? The number one way to create anticipation is to provide an exciting invite. In today's world you will also want to incorporate technology. Utilize Facebook, twitter and create a webpage for the event. The more excitation you create the better. Utilizing Facebook and twitter will allow you to interact with your guests prior to the event. You can even use surveys and quick questions to help shape your event. If you ask your guests whether they like country or jazz you will be able to direct the dj with the music selection. The idea is to be creative when inviting guests. Make them want to attend your event.
Another way to create excitement is to send a save the date. This will allow your guests to plan for the event. This is also an opportunity for you to use some creativity. If you are planning a luau you can send a message in a bottle or a flip flop with the invite on it. If you are having a movie themed event, you could send "And the winner is …" cards. You get the idea. You need to incorporate your theme throughout the event – starting with the invitation. Make sure that your website has the same theme. Your Facebook page should have a picture that reflects the theme as well.
What is the point in creating an appointment for an event only to have a boring entrance? The entrance and the atmosphere inside should reflect your theme and creativity. Rent spotlights and a red carpet for the entrance. Hire Hollywood star look-a-likes to line the entrance. Inside have each table setup with movie reels and fun centerpieces. Just remember to make the event as exciting as the invite. Do you have a special band performing at the event? A well known dj? Make sure to let your guests know. You want to make your guests feel special! The more thought you put into your event the more special your guests will feel. Remember that this does not mean you have to go broke. Just be creative. Utilize as many friends for donations. Have sponsors for your fundraiser if you can. Sponsors can even provide the event with their name on the invite. Just ask and you will receive.
Good luck!
