As a Professional DJ, I see all types of weddings and a wide variety of things that couples do to personalize their special day. A professional DJ should be able to help put the 'WOW Factor' in your Grand Entrance to your wedding reception. Unfortunately there are many DJ's out there that do not put the effort into this important reception kick off.
There are many different things that you can do to make your grand entrance special. Your DJ and MC should help out about 5 – 10 minutes prior to the entrance by getting your bridal party lined up outside the entrance to ensure that everyone is lined up and introduced in the proper order. Most events will have a staff member at the entrance door as well to help with the opening and closing of the door during the grand entrance.
Now you have to start thinking about what you want to do for your grand entrance. Having a fun, up-beat introduction is very popular and puts a fun, positive mood to kick off the reception. For music there are many options, first you need to decide if you are going to one song for everyone, one song for the bridal party and one song for you or a separate song for everyone in the bridal party.
When choosing a song, there are many popular songs that are used frequently but if you can choose something that suits your personality and tastes is will add even more personality and uniqueness to your special wedding day. The Black Eyed Peas have three big hits that have become very popular for grand entrances which are: I Gotta Feeling, The Time and Let's Get It Started. Some other popular song choices include Pink – Get The Party Started, Europe – The Final Countdown, 2 Unlimited – Get Ready For This, Jennifer Lopez – Let's Get Loud, Beyonce – Crazy In Love, Right Said Fred – I'm Too Sexy, Reel 2 Reel – I Like To Move It, LMFAO – Party Rock Anthem and many others.
Aside from doing something fun and having upbeat music, you also need either your DJ or MC be able to clearly announce the bridal party names and create some additional excitation around the introductions. You still want to do more to enhance your grand entrance? You can add lighting as well, anything from a simple spot light on the entrance to a follow spot, intelligent moving head lights programmed to a Hollywood search light effect around the room, LED up-wall lights to make the room have even more of a "WOW Factor." There are also many special effects ranging from low-lying fog, dry ice, confetti, fireworks, flare shows and much more available. Aside from music and lighting you can also use specialty entertainment such as a bagpiper, belly dancers, ethnic dancers or steel drummer to lead the wedding couple or party into the room.
There are many things you can do to kick off your wedding reception in a fun, upbeat fashion and I'm sure you see how this can create the mood for your special party. It is best to consult with you DJ and Venue as to what your options are and if they have any additional suggestions. Of course, it can also come down to budget when you get into adding the additional options outside of the basic music and introductions. I hope this has helped you in your wedding planning.
