An especially hard part of planning your wedding involves choosing the method of entertainment for the reception. Many brides find themselves struggling with the question of, "DJ or band?" Unfortunately, an especially sobering thought when it comes to wedding bands is the cost. They can range from two thousand to twenty thousand dollars, if not more. Also, unlike a DJ, volume can not be adjusted as effectively. Additionally, consider that your musicians will need breaks, which may mean needing a music alternative, or coping with periods of silence.
With a DJ, you can request that the first song be the actual "couple's song". That way you can play the real deal without having to listen to a wedding band attempt to recreate it. Additionally, you can choose from an extensive library of all sorts of music, without worrying about it sounding imitated or contrived.
A good DJ will give you many options, and even allow you to create the whole play list. Be weary of DJs who have a wedding "routine", for they can often be tacky and tasteless. DJs will often speak in between songs or as the couple enters, so also make sure that they have our name down and stick to appropriate subject matter.
Keep in mind that either one you choose will be expensive, especially if they are reputable and respected. Try and go see a DJ or band perform before you narrow down your choices. Most good bands and DJs will offer to send you a sample of their work, or perform live in front of you and your planner when you are in the process of narrowing your choices down.
