Plan a Wedding – Discussing the Budget

[ad_1]

Let's discuss the dreaded M word. Many people are scared to discuss this because they will often realize they do not have $ 40,000 to create their dream wedding. In fact, money should be one of the very first things you start discussing so that no one starts thinking or planning an unrealistic wedding.

First and foremost you need to figure out what you can afford. Sit down with your fiance and talk it over with him. There are a lot of things you need to consider such as; Do we have savings? Do we want to spend all of our savings or just a portion of it? If just a portion, how much of the portion? Do we want to go into debt for our wedding? I do not recommend going into debt. Starting a marriage with debt can put a lot of pressure on that marriage that may break it.

If you and your fiance are not money-wise or are incredibly unsure of what you can afford then I suggest sitting done with an accountant, if you can not afford an accountant then a financial planner can also help.

Before you proceed further you need to find out if anyone else is going to help with wedding expenses. Parents, grandparents and sometimes wealthy uncles or aunts will help out. However, I would not ask your aunts, uncles or grandparents unless they have previously stated that they want to help. You should sit down with your parents and find out if they plan to help out and how much.

After you find out how much money you have you will want to write up a rough budget. This is not going to be exact but a guideline. You will get exact numbers as you get more into the planning and picking things out. For now just write down a best guess based on what you think and how important the item is to you. For instance, someone may want a big huge dress and it's incredibly important to have something name brand, you will probably want $ 3000- $ 4000 or more there. Whereas someone who is not so picky just wants something that looks nice could put as little as $ 300- $ 400 there.

This is only the beginning of your budget but it is a very important place to start. Get a handle on the money before you get to far into the planning and waste your entire budget on the peninsula or the flowers.
