Planning a bridal shower can be an arduous process, so it can be a great idea to make a list of what you'll need to do. Pre-planning is always a great idea to make sure everything goes off without a hitch. Here are some ideas for planning a bridal shower:
1. Guests – A general rule of who to invite to a bridal shower is to invite all of the women that are also invited to the wedding or the wedding reception. Getting an invitation list from the bride and groom will help in this step.
2. Location – Once you have a general idea of how many are going to be invited to the bridal shower, you can start getting a ballpark figure on how many guests you'll have. Guests who live a far distance away may not be likely to attend the shower, although they should be sent an invitation regardless of whether you think they'll be able to make the event.
3. Games – Try to get an idea of any bridal games that will be played during the shower. It's important to think about this before invitations are sent out, and in the next step you'll see why.
3. Invitations – Invitations should be sent as far in advance as possible. Give your guests a date by which to RSVP, and also include any instructions for games. Many games require guests to bring along items or information that will be much easier to acquire and prepare before arriving at the shower. Be sure your invitations are very specific, especially if there are any special circumstances regarding the location (for instance, directions, parking, whether smoking is permitted, etc.)
4. Decorations – If there is a color theme, or any other kind of theme, with regard to the wedding decorations, it is often a nice touch to include the same theme in the decorations for the bridal shower. Generally each table has a centerpiece (which may be used as prizes in shower games and activities), and other decorations may include banners, balloons, lights or streamers.
5. Food – Catering, buffet-style, or potluck, it's always a good idea to provide refreshments for the guests at a shower. Be sure your location will provide anything you'll need for food, including refrigeration, outlets for electrical storage / heating, utensils, serving trays, coffeemaker, sink, stove, microwave, etc.
6. Favors – As a general show of appreciation for each guest's participation in the shower, the favors are often given to each guest. Favors can include candles, flowers, or other crafts made in accordance with the theme of the event.
7. Games and Prizes – Games are not required at a shower, but they are a fun way for guests to get to know one another (as often this is the first time many members of two separate families are meeting), and a way to thank guests for their attendance and gifts. Games vary in skill and luck, but generally are light-hearted in nature and easy enough for everyone to understand. Prizes range from small items like candles and bath soaps to larger items like elaborate decorations or crafts.
8. Thank You Cards – Although this is generally the responsibility of the bride, the organizer can lend a hand in this area. By asking each guest to bring along a card with their name and address printed on it, the bride will have a friendly reference for writing out thank you cards. (Cards can also be picked at random for prizes during the shower)
