Planning a Delayed Wedding Reception

[ad_1]

Sometimes it can be more practical to hold your wedding reception weeks or even a couple of months after the marriage ceremony. Known as a delayed wedding reception, this type of party can be a very good way to solve a variety of wedding planning dilemmas. For more on how to plan a beautiful delayed wedding reception, read on…

There can be many reasons why a delayed reception might make sense for a bride and groom. It is very often a much larger party than the wedding ceremony, which can be a wonderful way to have an intimate ceremony without making family feel excluded. Have the small service that you want, then a few weeks later have the grand bash that includes everyone not invited to the original ceremony.

Distance can be another reason to host a delayed wedding reception. With families spread far and wide, getting everyone together in one place can be expensive and challenging. Sometimes couples will choose to take the show on the road, so to speak. A wedding ceremony and reception can be held near the bride’s (or the groom’s) hometown, with a party immediately afterwards in the usual manner. Then a few weeks later, the newlyweds can have a second reception which is in a location convenient to the other side of the family. This way, everyone gets to celebrate with the couple, but no one has to go too far. It can be a good solution for brides and grooms who have family on opposite coasts.

A delayed wedding reception is not the same as a second wedding, and it should not be sold to guests as though it is the first wedding. Think about how hurt your relatives would be to be invited to a sham ceremony, only to find out later that the bride and groom had already previously been married! On the other hand, if you feel like your family will be disappointed that they were not included in the marriage ceremony, one option is to include a brief vow renewal or pledge of some sort before the party begins. Just be clear on the invitations that it is a renewal, not the original event.

The style of a delayed wedding reception can be whatever your heart desires, from a backyard barbeque to a black tie affair. If you had a very small and informal wedding ceremony, it might be fun to plan a more formal and traditional reception with all the trimmings, from fancy wedding gowns to fabulous bridal jewelry sets to big wedding cakes. Couples who are doing two receptions on different coasts might try to reuse whatever elements they can for the sake of cost effectiveness. Elements such as sets of bridal jewelry, for instance, are very portable and easy to transport. Items like fresh flowers, on the other hand, will need to be re-ordered for the second reception.

One final thought on the delayed wedding reception: if you are having a separate party for relatives in distant cities, take care to make each event as special as the other. You can be sure that people will talk, and the last impression you want to create is that the guests at the later party were considered to be the “B-listers”. With that in mind, you can enjoy planning a delayed wedding reception that will be a great time for both the newlyweds and all of the guests.
